Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum is seeking a hardworking and dependable candidate just like you to apply! Responsibilities of the Exhibits Technician: Performs as a team member within the Department of Collections and Curatorial Affairs. Responsible for required maintenance and the preservation, fabrication, renovation, and painting of the Museum’s displays, exhibits, and tour routes. The job duties of this position include but are not limited to the following: As needed and when required, perform maintenance, preservation, and renovation work on museum tour routes, and all exhibits located throughout the property of Patriots Point, to include but not limited to ships, buildings, etc. Maintains and monitors climate-controlled displays for light level restrictions and humidity requirements. Fabricates mounts, stands, and display case furniture for artifacts. Duties to include supervising small projects as directed, Plexiglas work, case lighting, and carpentry. Serves as project point of contact in Exhibit Manager’s absence.Responsible for maintaining an adequate inventory of exhibits shop supplies required to accomplish assigned work. Advises supervisor, in a timely manner, when additional supplies are needed. Maintains exhibits shop in accordance with Agency safety and cleanliness policies.Employee may be required to work after normal working hours, rotations, on weekends, holidays, emergencies, and or special events. Employee may be required to perform other duties as assigned to accomplish the mission of the Agency.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Trade experience directly related to the area of employment and a valid South Carolina driver’s license. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Good mechanical aptitude with working knowledge of tools and equipment used in normal museum job tasks.Knowledge and experience with working with museum artifacts and display objects.Able to communicate well with the public and maintain professional, personal appearance.Knowledge of pertinent safety and environmental standards.Knowledge and skills gained through military experience, vocational or technical school, or on-the-job training. A copy of the transcript may also be uploaded as an attachment to the application, if required by the hiring department or if desired by the applicant.
