Job Responsibilities •Provides academic advising to support student retention and graduation initiatives.
•Collaborates with faculty advisors and department chairs when applicable regarding a student's academic program and progression.
•Meet with students a minimum of two times per semester and as necessary.
•Identifies and helps resolve obstacles impeding the academic success of students.
•Supports students in developing a required academic plan to meet graduation requirements. •Explains academic policies, procedures, and guidelines to students to meet their educational goals.
•Educates students about the value of academic advisement and the importance of the registration process.
•Inform advisees of significant deadlines regarding Course Add, Course Drop, Mid-Terms, Course Withdrawals, and Academic Support Services.
•Maintain advising records and confidential student records in compliance with FERPA regulations.
•Engage in professional development activities by participating in conferences, training sessions, and webinars to stay current in the best practices of academic advising.
•Participate in New Student Orientation as it relates to Academic Advising
•Perform related duties as required or deemed necessary to meet the goals of the Office or Academic Advisement within the Advisor's scope of responsibility.
Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's Degree required at least 3 years' experience in academic advising or related student support services.
•Experience with Colleague Self Service or other Higher Education Database system preferred;
•Sensitivity to the needs of a diverse student population,
•Excellent interpersonal/human relations skills; Sound written and oral communication skills;
•Ability to encourage and empower students to make sound academic and career decisions;
•Ability to identify students' needs for support services, make appropriate referrals, and maintain confidentiality according to FERPA regulations;
•Availability for occasional evening and/or weekends functions
