State of OK JD McCarty Center is Hiring a Laborer Near Norman, OK

J.D. McCarty Center is looking for a Laborer to join our team in Norman, OK. Our facility serves children who have developmental disabilities, and the atmosphere is kid friendly. The qualities we are looking for is someone who is dedicated to ensure the physical environments are in excellent condition for the patients we serve. This person must be flexible when tasks are assigned, and adjustments must be made in order to lessen the disruption of our patients' schedules and routines.

The Laborer’s responsibilities involve preventative maintenance for the building, grounds, and equipment for the main facility, 6 residential hospital units, school/gym facility, and camp buildings which are located on an 80-acre campus. 

Hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. This position will be required to adjust work hours to accommodate any hospital emergencies. This position will be required to take call according to the supervisor's assignment schedule.

Other primary responsibilities are: 

  • Cuts grass, weeds, trees, shrubs, and brush; cleans culverts, drains and ditches; moves, assists with digging post holes and ditches, loads and unloads materials, supplies and equipment; hauls or carries sand, lumber, asphalt and cement or other materials; occasionally operates forklift or tractor.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on all vehicles including buses and golf carts.
  • Assist in routine repair, installation, and preventative maintenance of plumbing, electrical, HVAC and all other systems at an apprentice level.
  • Assist in general maintenance and repair of building and grounds to include but not limited to: moving, loading and unloading materials, supplies, and equipment; picking up materials from suppliers; mixing concrete or mortar; light construction; moving furniture, medical equipment, etc.
  • Assist in the organization and upkeep of the maintenance shop to include but not limited to: accounting for tools and equipment used; returning tools and equipment to appropriate storage area; sweep shop area; etc.
  • Demonstrates safety awareness while performing assigned duties by using equipment properly, wearing safety belts if needed, following policy guidelines when lifting and using proper body mechanics. Complies with department policy for lifting up to 50 pounds and obtains assistance for weights over 50 pounds.
  • Operate motor vehicles for various errands or trips, including buses in a safe manner.

Requirements: 

  • Must have a general knowledge base on the use of power tools, tractors, lawn equipment, fixtures, and materials.
  • Must be able to have prolonged periods of standing and walking.
  • Must be able to climb ladders and stairs.
  • Must have a valid drivers license.
  • Provide 2 professional work-related references.
  • Provide your immunization records.
  • Must follow established COVID protocols.
  • Pass drug screening.
