What You’ll Do:

  • Assesses educational needs of incarcerated persons.
  • Develops lesson plans to address those needs to include individualized assignments and training.
  • Provides instruction in fundamentals of electricity, using test equipment and residential, commercial, and industrial wiring and individual assistance.
  • Administers, scores and interprets examinations and proficiency indicators.
  • Maintains discipline and/or security and counsels students concerning their performance, behavior and/or personal problems.
  • Attends variety of meetings (e.g., in-service training, treatment team, student interviews).
  • Prepares required records and reports (e.g., enrollment figures, grades, student progress).
  • Inventories and orders supplies and materials needed.
  • Researches, selects and recommends new teaching materials.
  • Attends in-service training sessions and workshops for professional development.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Must meet eligibility requirements for Teacher Certificate/License appropriate for career-tech - electrical wiring & grade level as assigned*; Teacher 1, 71441, must also have baccalaureate degree or less per OEA agreement; NOTE: Applicant must successfully obtain Teacher Certificate or License prior to employment.

The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction is a tobacco-free workplace.

Pre-Employment Drug Testing:

All final applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis to test for illegal drug use prior to appointments. Testing will also be performed for the presence of marijuana. An applicant with a positive test shall not be offered employment unless the applicant submits medical documentation of legally prescribed medications or a recommendation for medical marijuana.

Pre-Employment Background Investigation:

The final applicant selected for the position will be required to undergo a criminal background check. An individual assessment of an applicant’s prior criminal convictions will be made before excluding an applicant from consideration.
