Job Duties

OPEN TO PERMANENT HIGHWAY TECHNICIANs FOR INTERNAL BID; employees in the Highway Technician 1, 2, and 3 classifications to be considered lateral transfers into the position.

Qualifications
Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & in reading, writing & speaking common English vocabulary. Note: If involved in driving motorized snow & ice control equipment, must also have valid commercial driver's license. In accordance with Section 124.11(B)(2) of Revised Code, Director of Administrative Services has determined this classification to be unskilled labor class & therefore exempt from written examination.
  • Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.

Must obtain Class B Commercial Driver's License with tanker endorsement without airbrake restriction within six (6) months of permanent hire date.

All bargaining unit & exempt new hires to ODOT must serve a (1) year probationary period.

This position is overtime eligible per FLSA Standards.

The final applicant accepted for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis prior to appointment to test for illegal drug use. Medical marijuana is prohibited as a valid medical explanation for a positive drug test. An applicant with a positive test result will not be offered employment, per section 3719.01 & 3719.41 of ORC.

Must obtain Class B CDL with tanker endorsement without airbrake restriction within six (6) months of permanent hire date. Once a CDL is obtained, you will be reclassified beginning the following pay period to a Highway Technician 1 at an hourly rate of $19.72.

If this position is filled internally, the wage rate will be determined in accordance with the contract and the Ohio Revised Code.

If you already have a CDL you will work 2 weeks as a Highway Maintenance Worker 1 at a hourly rate of $19.00, then be reclassified to a Highway Technician 1 at an hourly rate of $19.72.

Background Check Information

The final candidate selected for this position will be required to undergo a criminal background check. Criminal convictions do not necessarily preclude an applicant from consideration for a position. An individual assessment of an applicant’s prior criminal convictions will be made before excluding an applicant from consideration.
