The Opportunity…

DYS is seeking a Facility Program Deputy Superintendent at our juvenile correctional facility in Massillon, OH to plan, direct, and administer all treatment programs (e.g., reentry, substance abuse, education, social services, behavioral health, religious, and medical).

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Supervise and evaluate performance of program managers.
  • Establish program goals and evaluate progress.
  • Initiate investigations, recommend discipline, and serve as pre-disciplinary meeting facilitator for employees outside direct chain of command as assigned.
  • Ensure all programs maintain compliance with American Correctional Association (ACA) standards.
  • Prepare or direct preparation of program budgets; monitor spending for programs; prepare and maintain required reports, records, and correspondence.
  • Assist in developing institution-wide policies and procedures related to treatment programs.
  • Evaluate performance, recommend retention, and approve leave requests.
  • Serve as primary liaison between facility and central office program administrator.
  • Attend and/or chair various committees and meetings; rotate as Administrative Duty Officer; on call evenings and weekends for emergencies; serve in place of Superintendent during absences as assigned.

Qualifications
Positions in Department of Youth Services require completion of undergraduate core program in business or public administration, behavioral or social science (e.g., social work, psychology, criminal justice, criminology) or law enforcement; 3 yrs. exp. in supervisory, managerial or administrative position or in program management or program development; 18 mos. trg. or 18 mos. exp. in budgeting; 3 courses or 9 mos. trg. or 9 mos. exp. in labor relations/employee relations.
  • Or positions in Department of Youth Services require completion of graduate core program in business or public administration, behavioral or social science (e.g., social work, psychology, criminal justice, criminology) or law enforcement; 2 yrs. exp. in supervisory, managerial or administrative position or in program management or program development; 18 mos. trg. or 18 mos. exp. in budgeting; 3 courses or 9 mos. trg. or 9 mos. exp. in labor relations/employee relations.

This position is unclassified pursuant to Ohio Revised Code section 5139.02 and serves at the pleasure of the appointing authority. This position requires a background check to include the Department of Taxation and the Department of Public Safety.
