The Division of the State Fire Marshal keeps Ohioans safe when they are at home, and out and about. This includes modernizing and enforcing the Ohio Fire Code; training and certifying firefighters; teaching fire prevention and safety education to businesses, industry, schools and the public; investigating the origin and cause of fires and explosions; and regulating and licensing fireworks companies, underground storage tanks and other fire-related industries.

What You'll Do:

Fire Training Equipment Technician:

  • Assists primary Fire Training Officer with logistics support and set up for firefighter training exercises.
  • Holds a Class A CDL License to operate semi-tractor trailer mobile training simulators and equipment to on-site and off-site locations.
  • Operate a forklift and skid steer to assist in moving equipment.
  • Preforms a variety of welding, construction, carpentry, electrical, and plumbing repairs or adjustments to training structures and fixtures.
  • Maintains and keeps records of inventory, equipment and repair records.

Unusual working conditions; Exposed to loud noise, unpleasant weather conditions, extreme temperatures, fire starting, residue materials, and unusual work settings.

Must maintain valid Class A Commerical Driver License.

Qualifications
12 mos. trg. or 12 mos. exp. in maintenance & repair of fire apparatus, equipment & facilities & associated safety practices; valid Class A Commercial Driver's License.
  • Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.
Job Skills: Fire & EMS

Knowledge of safety practices involved in repair & maintenance of fire apparatus, equipment & facilities; policies & procedures of Ohio Fire Academy*; inventory control*. Skill in operation of audio/visual equipment, maintenance & repair of fire apparatus, equipment & facilities. Ability to interpret variety of instructions in written, oral, picture or schedule form; calculate fractions, decimals & percentages; understand manuals & verbal instructions, technical in nature; walk, stand & bend for long periods of time; lift up to 125 pounds occasionally. (*) Developed after employment.
