The salary is adjusted as the trainee obtains the additional education and experience to fully meet the position qualifications as outlined in the classification specification.** The Plant Pest Inspector position conducts survey/detection activities, control activities, performs regulatory functions and supervisory duties to enforce federal and state quarantines set by USDA-APHIS-PPQ and the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. The individual must work with and gain cooperation from federal, state, county, and city officials, as well as farmers, contractors, industry, and members of the public, and enforce quarantines and prevent violations as necessary. This position is responsible for the hiring and supervision of witchweed temporary personnel utilized to carry out program functions. This position is under the direct supervision of the NCDA&CS Witchweed Eradication Program Manager. Other duties may be assigned as needed.This position serves the following counties: Bladen, Cumberland, Pender, Robeson and Sampson. Candidate must reside in one of the counties that this position serves.Selected applicant must be able to travel to the Bladen County office as needed.
