Black Mountain Neuro-Medical Treatment Center (BMNTC) is currently accepting applications for a full-time Recreation Therapist.

 Your application will be considered incomplete if it lacks sufficient information for us to complete our screening and salary determination processes.The primary purpose of this position is to accurately assess resident’s leisure preferences, develop plans of care, evaluate progress, as well as to determine needed services according to the professional standards of recreational therapy.The Recreation Therapist Responsibilities include:
  • Evaluating, designing, and implementing Therapeutic Recreation programs for the residents of BMNTC
  • Providing services for adults with neurocognitive disorders, including those with physical disabilities and individuals who are medically fragile
  • Providing interventions, approaches, and individual and group activities to meet the resident's care plan goals. Serves on the interdisciplinary and provides recommendations to the team regarding a resident's plan of care.
  • Provides education to staff to support resident’s leisure preference and quality of life
This position is designated MANDATORY and MUST report or stay over during adverse weather events and/or other emergencies. 

Per G.S. 126-5 (c1) (37), this position is Exempt from all provisions of NC General Statute Chapter 126 (State Human Resources Act) with the exception of Articles 6 and 7.

ABOUT BLACK MOUNTAIN NEURO-MEDICAL TREATMENT CENTER:
Black Mountain Neuro-Medical Treatment Center is one of three state operated facilities serving adults with chronic and complex medical conditions that co-exist with neurodevelopmental or neurocognitive disorders often related to a diagnosis of severe and persistent mental illness or intellectual disability. The health and physical status of these residents require 24-hour supervision, daily nursing care, and assistance with activities of daily living.OUR MISSION STATEMENT:
We are a specialized long-term care facility focusing on maintaining quality of life and dignity for adults with neurocognitive or neurodevelopmental disorders with coexisting complex medical and behavioral needs whose level of support extends beyond that which can be provided in family or community living settings. We are committed to providing individualized compassionate care delivered by highly skilled staff.

The successful candidate will return to the Work Experience section of the application and thoroughly document, in detail, that they possess the following:
  • Demonstrated experience developing, implementing, and evaluating plans of care, relating to the resident’s leisure preferences.
  • Ability to instruct and/or guide direct care staff, student interns, and other staff involved in the care of the resident in recreation therapy methods and techniques.
Management Preference
  • Experience working with individuals with Neurocognitive Disorders.

Thorough Knowledge
– The advanced comprehensive knowledge of the subject to enable the employee to work independently without direct supervision and to assume responsibility for the solution of unusual as well as commonplace work problems, advise on technical questions, and plan methods for difficult work situations. This degree of knowledge means that the work calls for a complete mastery and understanding of the occupational field.The successful candidate will return to both the Education section of the application AND the Work Experience section of the application and thoroughly document, in detail, that they possess the following: 
Licensed to practice recreational therapy by the North Carolina Board of Recreational Therapy Licensure.Some state job postings say you can qualify by an “equivalent combination of education and experience.” If that language appears below, then you may qualify through EITHER years of education OR years of directly related experience, OR a combination of both.
