State of North Carolina is Hiring a Psychologist - Murdoch Developmental Center Near Granville, NC

Murdoch Developmental Center is a state residential facility for individuals with intellectual developmental disabilities, located in Butner, North Carolina, near the Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill and Research Triangle area. Murdoch is a caring community where professionals work with people of various ages, cognitive, and functional abilities. 

  • This position is located in the Psychology Services Department.

  • The Department operates from a strong theoretical base in Applied Behavior Analysis.

  • Responsibilities include completing assessments of cognitive and adaptive skills, and functional assessments of severe behavior disorders, developing comprehensive training and treatment programs, providing staff training and management services, assisting other staff in conducting systematic analysis of intervention efforts, and participating in interdisciplinary process. 

  • The psychologist will be assigned according to agency needs and will serve individuals with autism, intellectual disabilities and severe behavior disorders.

Scheduled work hours: 8:00 AM – 5:00PM, Monday – Friday. Flexibility is required to meet facility needs. This position is designated mandatory and must report or stay overnight during adverse weather events.

Applicants within the last semester of their master’s program in psychology will be considered for employment. All employment requirements must be completed prior to hire.

To be considered for employment, applicants must be in good standing with the North Carolina Personnel Health care Registry.

Qualified applicants must document on the application that they possess all of the following:
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of psychological principles, theories, methods and procedures especially in the area of intellectual disabilities/developmental disabilities.

  • Knowledge of behavioral assessment and interventions for individuals who have severe behavior disorders.

  • Knowledge of teaching and maintaining adaptive skills.

  • Knowledge, application and evaluation of psychological testing.

  • Knowledge of effective staff training and management strategies and ability to relate appropriately to clients and staff members.

Necessary Special Qualifications: A Master's or Doctoral Degree in Psychology from an accredited institution. Be eligible for, and subsequently fulfill all requirements for licensure in North Carolina as a Licensed Psychological Associate or Licensed Psychologist under provisions specified by the Psychology Practice Act (G.S. 90-270). Persons who have completed the Master’s or Doctoral Degree and are license eligible but who have not been licensed may be considered for this position as a trainee.

Management Prefers: training, education, and experience in applied behavior analysis with people who have intellectual/developmental disabilities.

Eligibility for licensure in North Carolina under the provisions of the NC Psychology Practice Act (G.S. 90-270).

**Eligibility for Sign-on Bonus** 

Qualified applicants must be selected from the candidate pool of this posting and meet the State policy following requirements:

A newly hired permanent full time or permanent part-time employee who works 30 to 40 hours per week is eligible for a sign-on bonus (this will be prorated for employees working less than 40 hours per week). 

An employee is not eligible for a sign-on bonus if:

(1) the employee has held a position in North Carolina State government, including the judicial system, or the University of North Carolina system within the last 12 months (the employee shall remain ineligible for 12 months from the separation date); 

(2) the employee has previously received a sign-on bonus from any State agency;

(3) or DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.
