North Carolina Adult Correction is Hiring a Correctional Behavioral Specialist I-Tabor CI Near Columbus, NC

Description of Work

This position is located at Tabor Correctional Institution in Tabor City, NC.
Work in this class involves administering, scoring, and supervising psychological tests to inmates in a diagnostic/mental health setting. Work also involves counseling with ofenders to establish the necessary rapport and attitudes that facilitate valid test results. Work may also include gathering relevant social, criminal, and mental health background information necessary to adequately interpret test results and prepare reports. Employees typically also have an assigned supportive counseling caseload designed to aid with offenders' adjustment to prison environment and their psychological functioning. Employees function as liaison with diagnostic and treatment staff and may serve on various committees relative to treatment.
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.
NC Department of Adult Correction (DAC):
The Dept. of Adult Correction is responsible for the care, custody and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes State Prisons with custody, healthcare and facility operations staff as well as the division of Community Supervision. Other divisions include Administration, Compliance & Accreditation, Comprehensive Health Services, Internal Affairs & Intelligence Operations, Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission and Rehabilitation & Reentry.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

The Knowledge, Skills and Abilities listed below, along with the Minimum Education and Experience requirements, are REQUIRED to qualify for this position. We will not review resumes in lieu of Experience and Education listed on the application.
To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALLof the following:

  • Documented knowledge of psychological principles.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of psychological and social assessments and treatment plans.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor's degree in psychology or other human services field from an appropriately accredited institution with several classes in psychology, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Note: Positions being recruited specifically for diagnostics will require at least one year administering and/or conducting psychological testing.
