These are labor class positions. There are no education or experience qualifications for this class. A Facility Operations Assistant 1 must be physically able to perform the duties assigned and be able to understand and carry out written or oral instructions.
Possession of a valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) is preferred, but not required, for these positions.
The Office of Mental Health (OMH) is recruiting to fill a Facility Operations Assistant 1 position. This is a temporary/hourly position in the Bureau of Environmental Design and Improvement located in the Long Island region. Specific duties to be performed may include, but are not limited to the following:
Assist with continuous maintenance, repair and care of all grounds including recreation areas, playgrounds, lawns, gardens, driveways, parking lots and walkways, and other properties.
Conduct landscaping work such as mowing lawns, tree trimming and clearing brush.
Maintain grounds by mowing grass, sweeping, raking, shoveling, and removing by hand debris, branches, snow, ice, trash, etc.
Make minor repairs of damaged buildings and structures due to weather conditions and vandalism.
Operate a variety of equipment in the maintenance and care of all grounds including recreation fields, lawns, gardens, driveways, and walkways.
May operate large machinery including backhoe, dump truck, tractor and commercial lawn machines, as needed.
Perform ongoing maintenance, small repair and environmental improvement projects; perform housekeeping tasks and heavy cleaning, general grounds keeping, landscaping, building maintenance, and painting as needed.
Move and transport surplus furniture, office equipment and other items.
Assist facility in packing boxes of sustainable materials and cataloguing fixtures, furniture, and equipment and other surplus items.
Implement proper surplus procedures and ensure that all required documentation is provided.
Assist with decommissioning services such as shut down of water systems, heating systems and boarding up windows of state property.
Provide emergency response for floods, snow storms, etc. as needed.
Assist as “back up” for the regional revitalization and special project teams in the New York City and Long Island area.
Lift heavy objects up to 75 pounds.
