Director of LD16 Assembly Constituent and Community Relations

SUMMARY:

The Director is an in-person position that acts as a liaison to state and local agencies and community organizations for the Members and constituents and answers casework correspondence and verbal communications with constituents. This position also tracks local issue trends; keeping staff informed of updates, concerns, and successes and working with the community directly.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS REQUIRED:

  • Acts as the primary point of contact between constituents and the members’ offices.
  • Is in the office as needed, with the opportunity to WFH/Hybrid as needed.
  • Functions as a representative for the Members within their area of responsibility including answering casework correspondence, meeting/communicating with constituents, and serving as a liaison with state, county, and local agencies;
  • Informs the Members and the Chief of Staff of relevant happenings in their assigned issue areas by screening district media sources and interacting with constituents;
  • Spearheads Constituent Services Outreach and Engagement to help increase engagement with State Programs;
  • Screens and refers cases, when appropriate, to other district offices;
  • Logs in all incoming and outgoing mail and incoming telephone calls, emails and other outreach relating to casework;
  • Prepares periodic (weekly/monthly) reports for the Office on pending cases, completed cases, and district activities in their assigned issue areas;
  • Continually follows up on cases and acts as liaison with constituents to ensure that their cases are handled in a responsive manner;
  • Maintains up-to-date files on all cases and categories of information of importance to the office;
  • Maintains a good working relationship with the Members, staff, and constituents;
  • Works a flexible schedule including off-site office hours, Constituent Service Fairs, Outreach events, and other events as assigned
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION (OR EQUIVALENT EXPERIENCE):

At least 1 year of work experience; strong academic credentials. Alternatively, 3 years of related academic experience or training in legislative or equivalent similar experience. Applicants with legislative, organizing and/or campaign experience preferred but not required.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • Strong oral and written communication skills;
  • Ability to manage a high volume of incoming constituent correspondence via phone, email, and mail.
  • Ability to prove community organization through logs, tracking and data analysis
  • Willingness to travel within the district to attend relevant outreach events.
  • Temperament to communicate with a variety of personalities in a tactful, pleasant, compassionate, and professional manner.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with others;
  • Strong organizational skills and a careful attention to detail;
  • Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment in fulfillment of casework responsibilities;
  • Ability to enter data and disseminate in a accurate and timely manner;
  • Knowledge of basic office software; such as word, excel, and powerpoint.
  • Willingness and capacity to learn new legislative computer programs as needed.
  • Knowledge of and experience with email drip campaigns is a plus
  • Bilingual/Multilingual is a plus

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Field duties require work during regular office hours and occasional nights and weekends for events. Additionally, employee must be able to travel locally 20% of the time and hold a valid driver’s license with consistent access to personal transportation.
