OA ITSD Operations Desktop Services is seeking a talented Systems Administration Specialist. This position includes automated software packaging and installation, security update deployments, operating system deployments, endpoint encryption, software approvals, reporting using SSRS, response to requests to assist in troubleshooting technical issues, supporting other technicians, and participation in long-term projects in both individual and team settings. A person in this position will assist in setting the direction for future advancement in endpoint technologies.

This position is with the Office of Administration, Information Technology Services Division (OA-ITSD) supporting Client Engagement Services (CES).

  • Identify security vulnerabilities.
  • Review and approve security updates from Microsoft, package and test updates before statewide deployment and troubleshoot issues that occur with update installations.
  • Write custom scripts to install applications, make changes to installations and data collection.
  • Write, evaluate and/or edit reports and queries using SQL and SSRS.
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software errors by running diagnostics, documenting problems and resolutions, prioritizing problems, and assessing impact of issues.
  • Provide advanced (Tier 3) level support to other IT functional areas.
  • Deploy software with Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM) using automation and distribution tools.
  • Troubleshoot any performance and/or deployment issues within MECM.
    • Create, test, maintain and deploy OS image(s), maintain device drivers, and modify complex task sequences
    • Learn and develop new skills through various training opportunities.
    • Other responsibilities and duties as assigned
  • Strong analysis, critical thinking, and time management skills.
  • Technical troubleshooting skills with in-depth knowledge of Windows OS.
  • Strong working knowledge and experience in endpoint management with an emphasis on Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager.
  • Strong background using PowerShell or another comparable scripting tool.
  • Knowledge and experience with Active Directory and GPO's.
  • Knowledge and experience with using SQL Server Reporting Services.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Team mentoring abilities.
  • Associate or BS in Computer Science or similar field or sufficient comparable relevant experience in lieu of degree.
  • Successful background check results are required for employment in this position. This may include background checks involving a candidate’s name and/or fingerprints and other screenings as needed for the specific position.

Lack of post-secondary education will not be used as the sole basis denying consideration to any applicant.

Knowledge of multiple platforms. Knowledge of staff mentoring and coaching techniques and methods. Skill in evaluating network performance. Ability to think critically and provide recommended solutions to issues. Ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments.
