Hawthorn Children's Psychiatric Hospital provides specialized care for children and adolescents diagnosed with mental illness. We are looking for a positive and energetic Lead Food Service Assistant who has an interest in helping children with mental illness maximize their potential.

Hawthorn Children’s Psychiatric Hospital uses the Sanctuary Model to guide our interactions with our teammates and the care we provide to our consumers in order to promote healing, safety, and nonviolence. This is accomplished by following the Foundation of Sanctuary – The Four Pillars of (1) Trauma Theory, (2) Seven Commitments, (3) S.E.L.F. (Safety, Emotion, Loss, and Future), (4) Sanctuary Tool Kit.

The Lead Food Service Assistant supervises Food Service Assistants and Cooks in the absence of any other supervisor(s). S/he works the late shift 4 days per week, providing supervision for dinner, and receiving any dietary deliveries if they are later than 2:30pm.

This is a working supervisory position, s/he does the job of the FSA but also fills in as a Cook when needed. The Lead Food Service Assistant and the three FSA’s are responsible for cold food preparation, meal service, refrigerator temperatures monitoring, delivering of food to the cottages, cleaning and putting up stock.

• 1 year previous work experience or training in food service or equivalent
• Ability to read and follow recipes
• Lift up to 35lbs
• Dependability and willingness to work with attention to detail
• Completion of 6 month probationary
• No disciplinary action in last 12 months [current State of Missouri applicants]
• Have or are willing to receive Hepatitis A vaccination
