Laboratory Manager – Feed and Seed Laboratories

The Missouri Department of Agriculture (MDA) Plant Industries Division, Bureau of Feed and Seed assists the state’s feed industry and consumers through inspecting and testing product and providing information to consumers to assist in making buying decisions. We are currently seeking a full time Lab Manager to work in our Feed Control Laboratory located at 115 Constitution Drive, Jefferson City, MO.

LOCATION: 115 Constitution Drive, Jefferson City, Missouri

SALARY: $62,151.12 annually

What You'll Do:

• Work closely with the Quality Assurance Manager to provide planning, resourcing and staffing to maintain ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation.
• Review and/or revise policies and processes to ensure compliance with laws, regulations, policies, plans and procedures.
• Participate in the development of budget (new decision item) requests and monitor lab expenditures according to budget allocations/appropriations.
• Select, train, supervise and evaluate feed and seed laboratory staff.
• Oversee contracts, grants and cooperative agreements with federal and state organizations.
• Maintain feed and seed laboratory equipment and instrumentation responsibly.
• Responsible for purchasing equipment and instrumentation for both laboratories.
• Travel as needed for trainings, meetings and conferences. Some in state and out of state travel required.
• Supervise laboratory staff of chemists and seed analysts.
• Responsible for laboratory building issues and maintenance. Will work closely with OA-FMDC.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited four year college or university with specialization in chemistry, biology, microbiology, medical laboratory technology, natural sciences or closely related area;

AND

Four (4) or more years of professional experience as a chemist, microbiologist, medical technologist, veterinarian, forensic scientist, or related field. Graduate work may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for a maximum of two years of the stated experience.
