State of Missouri is Hiring an Equipment Technician - Joplin Near Joplin, MO

This position may be filled at one of the three levels based on knowledge, skills, and abilities. The entry salary is posted above, with an Intermediate starting salary of $49,984.08, and a Senior starting salary of $53,982.72.Note for internal applicants: Successful candidates already at rates above the posted salary will be evaluated on an individual basis to determine final salary outcome. Substitution of experience for the education requirement will be considered.Job Location: JoplinIf selected for an interview, interviews will be held on 06/05/2024.
Why You’ll Love This PositionThe equipment technician performs entry-level skilled work in the maintenance and repair of light vehicles and heavy construction equipment. Responsibilities are performed under moderate supervision.

What You’ll Do
  • Maintains and performs basic repairs to automobiles, trucks, tractors, loaders, motor graders and other heavy equipment.
  • Inspects, services, repairs and overhauls transmissions, engines, clutches, drivelines, differentials, front and rear axle assemblies and ignition systems; repairs and installs hydraulic controls; tunes motors using standard testing equipment; dismantles, repairs and reassembles air compressors, hydraulic jacks, pumps, cylinders and related equipment.
  • Inspects, repairs, overhauls and assembles automotive components such as alternators, distributors and starters.
  • Completes mandated fleet inspections and ensures all equipment meets OSHA standards and all repairs and modifications are done in accordance with operational specifications and safety standards.
  • May weld and modify equipment and fabricate parts.

  • Job requires significant physical stamina and endurance.
  • Job requires exposure to physical hazards, health and safety risks, and/or adverse or otherwise undesirable characteristics in the environment.
  • Job may require operation of vehicles to plow snow and spread ice control materials.
All You Need For Success
  • Associate’s Degree in Diesel Mechanics, Auto Mechanics, Automotive Technology, or
  • Completion of a formal post-secondary technical training program in automobile or heavy equipment-related repair (of at least 30 credit hours or one school year in duration) and one year of experience in automotive or heavy equipment repair.
  • A passing grade on the written portion of the commercial driver’s license (CDL) exam is required prior to the hire date. Must pass the driving portion of the Class B CDL exam with tanker endorsement, no air brake restrictions, and interstate status (either Excepted Interstate [EI] or Non-Excepted Interstate [NI]) within 60 days of hire into the position.
  • Valid vehicle inspection license within 60 days of hire into the position.
  • Successful completion of a work simulation examination and medical-physical examination.
