This position will have the opportunity to carry out a broad and complex range of investigative and analytical epidemiologic activities related to chronic disease surveillance, detection, and program evaluation. This position provides opportunities to learn and to lead in the field of epidemiology while providing analytical support to chronic disease program activities, specifically the Missouri Physical Activity and Nutrition Program.

What you’ll do:

  • Work closely with the Physical Activity and Nutrition Program and the Missouri Healthy Schools Successful Students Program to develop, implement, and track evaluation activities and deliverables.
  • Develop methods and tools for data collection and analysis in addition to creating and/or updating data dissemination products such as grant-related reports, presentations, factsheets, or dashboards.
  • Serve as a liaison between programs and data systems, knowledgeable in the analysis of data from multiple chronic disease programs and existing surveillance systems (such as the Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System).
  • Collaborate with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders working to improve nutrition and physical activity in the state of Missouri chronic disease programs.
  • Work independently, or as an experienced team member, to provide epidemiologic expertise for specific programs and conduct research incorporating more complex analyses.
  • Coordinate with units across the Division with respect to program planning, implementation and evaluation

All you need for success:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree preferred
  • 2 or more years of relevant experience
  • Knowledge of current research and analytical methods related to public health and epidemiology
  • Background in epidemiological research, surveillance, analytical methods, and/or health information analysis is preferred
  • Experience developing methods of collecting, analyzing, and disseminating data
  • Proficiency with SAS or similar statistical software packages is desired as well as familiarity with PC desktop resources and Microsoft Office Professional software
  • Strong and effective communication skills, both written and verbal
