State of Missouri is Hiring a Deputy Director - Community Engagement MCPSC Near St. Louis, MO

Job Location: This position will be located at 20 S. Sarah Street, St. Louis, MO 63108.

Why you’ll love this position:

The Deputy Director for Community Engagement is responsible for establishing community engagement strategies for the schools we sponsor and the communities they serve. This position supports the Executive Director in promoting and communicating the Commission’s mission, accomplishments and values, will be responsible for all communications channels including social media, will produce the content for the Commission’s web site and internet presence, prepare all communications for the Commission’s monthly meetings and public hearings, and create presentations to the State Board of Education, and Missouri Legislature.

What you’ll do:

  • Identify the Commission’s basic public information and internal communication needs
  • Prepare and manage all communication materials about the academic, financial, and operational performance of sponsored schools
  • Establish and drive a multi-channel communication strategy
  • Present and disseminate accurate and easily consumable data on school enrollments, student characteristics, and academic outcomes for use by Commission and sponsored schools to support public reporting, school monitoring, and renewal recommendations
  • Assist in creation of digital, video, audio and print content
  • Create and maintain content on Commission’s website
  • Work with contract services in support of media relations and develops contacts with media members, influencers, and community leaders
  • Works with contract consultants in support of crisis and strategic communications

All you need for success:

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in communication, marketing, public policy, education, business, or another relevant field
  • Five years experience in industry communication, public relations, marketing, or public affairs
  • Experience and success in working with associations, industry brands, legislators and/or boards
  • General knowledge of charter schools, school reform programs, theories, and practices
  • Charter school, charter school authorizing/sponsorship or government experience
  • Basic knowledge of history and socio-economic conditions of neighborhoods making up the communities we serve and general understanding of the community organizations serving families and children who live there
  • Project Management skills

Required Travel:

  • Travel within Missouri is required on a regular basis to meet with community and school leaders, and to represent the Commission at local meetings and events. This position may require limited national travel. Mileage and other travel expenses will be reimbursed at the approved rate.
