Assistant Superintendent
Annual Salary: $75,696.00
Position with administrative and supervisory responsibilities concerned with the overall management and operation of the Missouri Schools for the Severely Disabled.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The incumbent must have the ability to perform the essential functions below either with or without reasonable accommodations.
1. Coordinate curriculum development and implementation, improvement of instruction, and staff development.
2. Ensure efficiency of procedures in central office and supervise central office personnel.
3. Assist in formulating and administering a program of staff supervision and evaluation.
4. Supervise nursing and health care efforts.
5. Oversee compliance with IDEA.
6. Monitor annual student and performance evaluation.
7. Support superintendent in development of positive public relations both within and outside of MSSD system.
8. Strive to achieve greater efficiencies and effectiveness through continual review and revision of policies and procedures.
9. Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Proficiency in curriculum and effective instructional strategies for students with severe to profound disabilities.
2. Skillful in the application of the principals of Positive Behavior Support.
3. Thorough knowledge of state laws and regulations pertaining to school administration.
4. Thorough knowledge of applicable laws and regulations pertaining to special education and related matters.
5. Knowledge of effective school administration.
6. Ability to discuss the Missouri Schools for the Severely Disabled program in an effective manner with interested groups.
7. Ability to supervise staff.
8. Ability to work under supervision as well as assume leadership responsibilities when required.
9. Custodian of Records for MSSD.
10. Represent MSSD on appointed committees.
11. Lead project manager for the District Strategic Plan.
12. Process child complaints and due process hearings and mediation.
13. Lift and move 50 lbs.
EDUCATION REQUIRED/PREFERRED:
1. Master’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university in an area of school administration and supervision, or a related field.
2. Three years of successful experience in special education, administration or general school administration and supervision.
3. Eligible for Superintendent Certification, and Educational Specialist Degree preferred.
(Other qualifications and experience which, in the opinion of the Commissioner of Education, meet the requirements of the position may be accepted in lieu of the above.)
