This position requires the ability to plan, organize, and complete complex assignments. The successful candidate will possess good written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work with a diverse group of partners. This position will make public presentations and provide training as needed. This position plays a critical role when disasters strike, serving in a leadership role in Essential Support Function (ESF) #6 working with voluntary and faith-based organizations to ensure that assistance is provided to disaster survivors. The position serves as a member of the Emergency Human Services (EHS) unit focused on ensuring disaster preparedness and operational readiness through planning and preparedness activities on the local and state level. This position will be supervised by the State Voluntary Agency Liaison.
What you’ll do:
The position involves travel within the state, with some overnight travel. Hours are typically 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.; overtime may be required during emergency operations and disaster activations.
All you need for success:
Knowledge emergency management and its relevance to public safety. Ability to analyze implications, identify trends, and apply conclusions to complex problems. Ability to operate a motor vehicle and maintain a valid vehicle operator’s license. Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays when required to respond to disaster/emergency situations. Knowledge of the different types of private, volunteer, and governmental emergency response and recovery programs and their purpose. Ability to coordinate information, people, resources, and organizations to react to emergencies and disasters. The ability to effectively work with diverse groups and individuals. Skill in making presentations before groups. Experience as an educator, instructor or trainer.
Typical Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of relevant experience.
