Job Summary

The Public Health Laboratory is seeking to fill a supervisory position responsible for the Health Informatics Unit in its Infectious Disease Laboratory (IDL) section. The position will supervise five full-time and one part-time staff members who support the Laboratory Information System (LIS). This position helps to guide and implement process improvements with regards to the LIS and electronic messaging of laboratory data. This position will work closely with staff from Minnesota Information Technology to ensure that the Laboratory Information System and other health informatics systems are developed in accordance with MDH, industry and CDC standards, and will ensure that electronic security standards are maintained. Occasional weekend or after-hours work may be required. This position works is an integral part of the Infectious Disease Laboratory leadership team and will work in close collaboration with all IDL units. All positions within the MDH Public Health Lab work to increase awareness, learning and understanding of diversity, equity and inclusion, and actively engage in activities to promote an inclusive work environment for all.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in public health, health care information technology, computer science, or related area
  • 3 years of experience with database management, statistical analysis, and/or systems programming (SQL, R, and/or Python)
  • Experience as a supervisor, team lead, lead worker, project lead OR completion of a State leadership development program, such as Emerging Leaders Institute (ELI) or Senior Leadership Institute (SLI)

Experience must be clearly stated on your resume to be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of laboratory operations and testing in a clinical or public health laboratory.
  • Knowledge of health information standards such as HL7, LOINC, and SNOMED.
  • Ability to quickly analyze problems, determine appropriate level of intervention, and develop and apply effective solutions.
  • Strong knowledge of clinical informatics analytics, controlled terminology, clinical workflows, and user interface optimization.
  • Experience working with a public health disease surveillance system.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate productively, work in a team environment, and to train and support clinical informatics users at all professional and technical levels.
  • Project management experience on a large, complex public health information system.
  • Experience working with IT technical staff to support large applications.
