Job Summary

  • The Minnesota Department of Transportation does not sponsor applicants for work visas or Optional Practical Training Extensions for STEM Students. Individuals must be legally authorized to work in the US at the start of employment.

Perform conference set ups, tear downs, and serve the needs of conference center attendees. Perform custodial, general maintenance and repair of the St. Cloud Headquarters Building and grounds, to keep the facility in clean, presentable, and safe condition for internal and external customers. Clears sidewalks and parking lots of snow and ice by shoveling, applying deicing chemicals, and operating powered snow removal equipment. Assist with facility security and fire extinguisher inspections. This position works with power tools, machinery/instruments and equipment, and hand tools requiring the frequent lifting, carrying, and holding of supplies and parts up to 50 pounds and rarely up to 100 pounds.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

To qualify, General Maintenance Worker applicants must meet all the following:

Knowledge of:

  • Different types of flooring/floor covering sufficient to determine proper methods of maintenance and appropriate cleaning methods, materials, agents, and equipment.
  • Chemical cleaning agents such as ammonia, bleaches, scouring agents and soaps sufficient to appropriately select the agent(s), handle and apply, and dispose of safely.
  • Methods, tools, and equipment used in maintenance sufficient to use effectively and operate safely and to make minor repairs.

Ability to:

  • Maintain physical health and endurance sufficient to perform work functions.
  • Follow simple oral and written instructions.
  • Perform assigned tasks with limited work direction.
  • Keep simple records.

Preferred Qualifications

  • State of MN Special Boiler’s license.

  • Commercial janitorial experience.

  • Knowledge of horticulture practices sufficient to properly care for lawns, trees, and shrubs.

  • Experience operating powered lawncare/snow removal equipment

  • Previous experience with large conference set up and tear downs

Physical Requirements

A pre-placement physical examination is required for this position. Current employees who have successfully bid or are moving into specific job classifications will be required to complete the pre-employment physical exam. The scope of the physical exam will be limited to whether the employee can safely and effectively perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, in compliance with state and federal law.
