Job Summary

Candidates may be eligible for student loan reimbursement! The Student Loan Reimbursement Program is available to eligible classifications within the Dentist series. Employees meeting the program criteria can apply to request reimbursement for their own outstanding student loan debt balances that align with DOC’s business needs. This position exists to provide comprehensive dental care for incarcerated individuals. Responsibilities include:

  • Takes dental histories of all patients upon admission in order to determine extent of care needed.
  • Examines patients and administers tests so that dental malfunctions are discovered.
  • Performs oral surgery as required in order to remedy dental malfunctions.
  • Instructs dental assistants so that oral care can be provided to the patient.
  • Orders laboratory examinations and analysis, x-rays, and specific medication so that complete dental care is provided.
  • Keeps records and makes reports in order to document patients’ dental progress.
  • Supervises qualified dental staff in order to deliver efficient service to patients.

This position has direct contact with incarcerated individuals.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

The following qualifications are required of all applicants seeking consideration for this position.

Education/Licensure:

Current licensure from the Minnesota Board of Dentistry to practice dentistry in Minnesota.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of general dentistry.
  • Considerable knowledge of the techniques involved and skills in diagnosing and treating a wide variety of dental diseases and injuries.
  • Considerable knowledge of recent developments in the field of general dentistry and the characteristics and usages of modern drugs.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a dental clinic environment. Ability to provide leadership in working with incarcerated individuals.
  • Ability to supervise dental assistants in clinical dental practice.

Physical Requirements

The completion of pre-placement physical components may be required for this position. These components consist of a tuberculosis screening and/or respirator clearance. The selected finalist is required to review and sign a Physical Demands Analysis (PDA) for this position. For a copy of the PDA, please email Shelley Rojesky (Shelley.Rojesky@state.mn.us).

Additional Requirements

The selection process may include screening the top candidate(s) on their criminal history, predatory offender registration, offender associations and/or other applicable background information in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. Top candidate(s) must pass a criminal history check which includes successful completion of all sentencing and/or restitution requirements of law enforcement jurisdictions, including probation.

Employment history/reference checks, including incidents of sexual harassment, will also be conducted on the top candidate(s) in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. This may include a review of job performance and discipline records.

New employees will be fingerprinted within the first 30 days of employment.
