POSITION DUTIES

The main purpose of the Office Clerk I position is to provide interpretation assistant services for clients of the clinical department and to ensure client and staff understanding. The position will also perform administrative assistant duties with various program operations. This position will schedule client appointments for all clinics, check in/out of clinic, perform income and insurance verifications, document encounters with PatTrac system, update client demographic information and answer main phone lines. The position will also create purchase orders as needed and perform reminder phone call appointments to clinic clients and other administrative assistant duties as necessary. The position will translate oral and written information in the Health Department, complete questionnaires, interview clients and complete appropriate paperwork for charts.
This position will be responsible for working some evenings/weekends as needed for groups and community events. May also be asked to stay late or come in after hours on occasion. This position is designated Emergency Essential 24/7 status and may need to respond to a public health emergency, providing own transportation. This position is eligible for telework per the Caroline County Health Department leadership.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of the eighth grade.

Experience: Six months experience performing clerical duties in an office environment.

Notes: 1. Additional experience performing clerical duties may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate may be substituted for the required experience.

3. Six months clerical training with three courses in subjects such as keyboarding, clerical math, word processing, spreadsheets, database, graphics presentation, proofreading, or office etiquette may be substituted for the required experience.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administration classifications or Administrative, Clerical or Office Services specialty codes in the Clerical Support field of work on a year-for year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess experience with:
  • Communication, both written and oral
  • Computer utilization (Microsoft Office and Google Suites)
  • Customer service with internal and external customers
  • Providing Bilingual services
