LOCATION OF POSITION

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of the MSP Emergency Dispatcher Trainee is to facilitate officer safety by monitoring police radio transmissions and utilizing all communications equipment towards that end at the entry level performance.

POSITION DUTIES

Duties include but arenot limited to:Monitorand communicate with MSP and other public safety personnel via two-waymulti-channel radios and maintain required documentation of same;�UtilizeMETERS/NCIC/NLETS to obtain, update, disseminate and accurately transmitinformation within the Department and to other law enforcement and criminaljustice agencies;�Utilizetelephones in a professional manner to provide necessary guidance andinformation to Departmental personnel and the general public;�Fileand maintain METERS/NLETS messages, and various required logs associated withthe communications center operations;�Interactwith Department personnel, allied agencies and the general public;�Performsother related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:� Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.Experience:��None.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferencewill be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s).� Include clear and specific information onyour application regarding your qualification(s).�One yearof dispatching experience in a 911 (police/emergency) services environment utilizinga CAD (computer aided dispatch) system. �One yearof experience in a multi-faceted work environment using data entry keyboardfunctions and a multi-line telephone system. �Acombination of one year of emergency dispatch training, education and/or experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

In accordance withSection 2-204(b)(6) of the Public Safety Article, candidates for position inthis classification will be subject to an initial drug screening and a completecriminal background investigation to include a polygraph examination beforepermanent appointment can be made. A criminal conviction may be grounds forrejection of the candidate.�Employees in thisclassification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Codeof Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.�Employees in thisclassification will be required to provide the employing barrack with atelephone number where they can be reached.�Candidates for this classification may be given a medicalexamination to determine their ability to perform the duties of the jobclassification.

SELECTION PROCESS

Only candidates who meetthe minimum qualifications will be considered for this classification.Therefore, it is essential that you provide complete and accurate informationon your application. Successful candidates will be placed on the Eligible Listcategorized as BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED or QUALIFIED and remaineligible for consideration for at least one year from the date of examination.The list will be used by the hiring manager to select employees. The list willbe valid for one year.

The examination willconsist of a rating of your education, training and experience related to therequirements of the position.
