Main Purpose of Job
To provide speech, language, AAC, and aural rehabilitation services to MSD students, including those who may have multiple disabilities. Speech-Language services help support a bilingual approach by facilitating and enhancing student communication skills.
POSITION DUTIES
Administer language, speech, AAC, and auditory skilldiagnostic evaluations;Conduct speech, language, speech reading, AAC, andauditory skills development;Evaluate treatment and revise as necessary;Prepare and maintain necessary records and report onstudent services and progress;Participate in team and community meetings;Serve as an IEP team member, determine present levels ofperformance and establish goals specifically addressed to student needs;Use developmentally appropriate activities, a variety oftherapy materials, various assistive technology, and oral-motor strategies asneeded;Adapt therapy strategies to facilitate student progress,including service delivery methods (services both inside and outside of theclassroom);Consult with other professional and nonprofessionalpersonnel, including conferences with parents and classroom staff, concerningstudent performance;Assist with training of classroom staff regarding amplificationequipment, feeding/swallowing precautions and/or augmentative communicationuse;Conduct and participate in seminars, in-service andprofessional training programs;Maintain confidentiality pertaining to students care;Assume other responsibilities as designated by theDepartment Head.Candidate must have:Knowledge of the theory, principles and practices ofspeech-language pathology;Evaluations and treatment should be conducted with theunique deaf and hard of hearing population in mind. Considerations of hearinglevels, language abilities and cultural diversity are essential to meeting theneeds of this population.Proficiency with or the ability to use a variety ofcomputer programs and applications (i.e. Google, MS Word, Boardmaker, MarylandOnline IEP program, etc.)Basic level sign language skills is a must withwillingness to improve ASL skills to achieve fluency.Additional desirable knowledge: PhonologicalAwareness, ABA experience, AAC experience, Feeding/Swallowing experience.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Set by the Maryland State Board of Examiners forSpeech-Language Pathologists under the licensing requirements.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Must be willing to learn American Sign Language.Must possess and maintain certification through theAmerican Speech-Language Hearing Association.Must take initiative to remain current inclinical practice through lectures, literature and other educationalopportunities.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Candidates for this position must possess or be qualifiedto receive, a current license from the Maryland State Board of Examiners forSpeech-Language Pathologists, 4201 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215.Employees in this class must renew their licensein accordance with Title 19, Speech-Language Pathology, Health OccupationsArticle, and Annotated Code of Maryland.

BENEFITS
Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
