Introduction

This is a 12-month\r\nposition in the maintenance department of the Maryland School for the Deaf –\r\nFrederick Campus.� This position is designated as Essential Personnel.\r\n�\r\nA Maintenance Chief\r\nIII Non-Licensed is the supervisory level of stationary engineering and\r\nbuilding maintenance work. Employees in this classification supervise skilled\r\nand semi-skilled building maintenance workers. Employees in this classification\r\nreceive general supervision from the Maintenance Supervisor or administrator.�Positions\r\nin this classification are evaluated by using the Supplemental Standards for\r\nMaintenance Chief/Supervisor Positions which allocates positions based on their\r\njob function or overall supervisory responsibility.\r\n

POSITION DUTIES

This is a 12-month\r\nposition in the maintenance department of the Maryland School for the Deaf –\r\nFrederick Campus. This position is designated as Essential Personnel. A\r\nMaintenance Chief III Non-Licensed is the supervisory level of stationary\r\nengineering and building maintenance work. Employees in this classification\r\nsupervise skilled and semi-skilled building maintenance workers. Employees in\r\nthis classification receive general supervision from the Maintenance Supervisor\r\nor administrator. Positions in this classification are evaluated by using the\r\nSupplemental Standards for Maintenance Chief/Supervisor Positions which\r\nallocates positions based on their job function or overall supervisory\r\nresponsibility.\r\nThe Maintenance Chief\r\nposition is responsible for supervising maintenance staff, performing daily\r\ninspections of buildings and grounds to ensure reliability and safety of the\r\nphysical plant. Organizes, schedules, and coordinates the technical building\r\nmaintenance work and installation services;\r\nInspects completed job\r\nassignments for adherence to trade standards; Supervises and provides\r\non-the-job training to semi-skilled and unskilled employees;�\r\nInteracts with vendors\r\nto facilitate repairs to campus buildings and grounds;�\r\nReviews and interprets\r\nblue prints and schematics for maintenance staff for electrical and plumbing\r\nrepairs;�\r\nCoordinates building\r\nrepair processes with the Principal or the Principal’s designee to minimize\r\ndisruption of services provided and to ensure that all buildings are properly\r\nmaintained;�\r\nAdjusts, maintains,\r\nand makes minor repairs to refrigeration and cooling equipment and other\r\ncontrol devices; Prepares specifications for the requisition of equipment,\r\ntools, parts, and supplies;�\r\nInspects equipment,\r\ntools, parts and supplies when received to ensure compliance with\r\nspecifications; Inspects shop and work areas for adherence to safety, sanitary,\r\nand security regulations;�\r\nSecures tools and\r\nequipment;�\r\nAssists with planning\r\nand conducting fire evacuation drills;�\r\nKeeps the maintenance\r\nsupervisor advised as to the status and condition of fleet assets;�\r\nMay conduct\r\ninventories;�\r\nResponsible to respond\r\nas Emergency Personnel for snow removal; Performs other related duties.\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:�� Eighth grade.\r\nExperience: Four years�of experience in\r\nthe building maintenance or building construction trades including three\r\nyears�of experience�assigning, reviewing and approving the work of\r\nother building maintenance or building construction workers.\r\n\r\n\r\nNote: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed\r\nForces military experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher, as a\r\nnon-commissioned officer in utilities classifications or mechanical maintenance\r\nmanagement specialty codes in utility systems repair, on a year-for-year basis\r\nfor the required experience.\r\n

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be\r\ngiven to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s).\r\nInclude\r\nclear and specific\r\ninformation on your application regarding your qualifications.\r\n�\r\n1. Experience with\r\ncommercial building repairs or school settings.\r\n2. Supervisory\r\nexperience with specialty trades such as plumbing or electrical work.\r\n3. Willingness to\r\nlearn ASL.\r\n

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this\r\nclassification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor\r\nvehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor\r\nvehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.\r\n
