Job duties:

This is professional services work involving psychological assessment and psychotherapy. Clinical supervision may also be exercised over all psychological services within the institution. Work is performed under administrative direction. 

REPRESENTATIVE TASKS: (A position may not be assigned all the duties listed, nor do the listed examples include all the duties that may be assigned).

* Provides psychotherapeutic treatment to patients with mental illness and/or developmental disabilities to reduce maladaptive behavior and reduce emotional suffering.

* Provides psychological testing and written reports of test findings regarding the nature and extent of patients' psychological problems in order to contribute to diagnostic considerations and treatment planning.

* Consults with other members of multidisciplinary treatment teams, providing expertise and professional knowledge based on education, training, clinical experience and rooted in the scientific literature.

* Provides training and supervision to other clinical staff to enhance knowledge and skills relating to topics in clinical psychology

KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: (These are required to successfully perform the work assigned).

Knowledge of modern psychological principles and practices as related to testing and mental measurement.

Knowledge of the principles and methods of clinical psychology including testing, diagnostic evaluation, and psychotherapy.

Knowledge of the application of psychology to social and educational deviation, mental disease, and patient rehabilitation.

Knowledge of the fundamental types and problems of mental disease and abnormality and their treatment.

Knowledge of psychotherapy and other psychotherapeutic techniques.

Knowledge of principles of social, organizational psychology, and group processes.

Ability to coordinate and supervise the work of others.

Ability to implement an in-service training program in clinical psychology.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A Doctorate Degree reflecting comprehensive training in psychology and two years of experience in psychology, one year of which may have been an internship.

Dorothea Dix Psychiatric Center (DDPC) is a 69-bed psychiatric hospital serving the entire State of Maine that provides services for people with severe mental illness.
