State of Louisiana is Hiring an Instructor - Heavy Equipment Operator - Natchitoches / Sabine Valley Campuses Near Natchitoches, LA

This posting is for a full-time, 12-month, unclassified, faculty position. (2 Vacancies)This is a grant funded position.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • At least seven (7) years of experience working in a construction environment, with a minimum of five (5) years of experience operating heavy equipment.
  • Valid Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with manual endorsement.
  • Must possess a thorough understanding of heavy equipment, primarily, but not limited to, excavators, dozers, motor graders, scrapers, articulated trucks, and wheel loaders.
  • Strong ability to assess the skills and competencies of operators and their potential.
  • Experience providing training to both large and small groups.
  • Strong leadership and proactive problem-solving skills.
  • Strong presentation, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products. 
  • Ability to be flexible in learning new information and evolving the position.
  • Valid driver’s license.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 
  • Must have use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, and handle or feel objects and controls. 
  • Must be sufficiently mobile to work in a classroom and/or outdoor environment with vehicles/equipment and students daily.
  • Ability to occasionally lift or carry up to 25 pounds.

Equipment Operator (HEO) program at our Natchitoches and Many campuses.   • Instruct heavy equipment operation, safety, and basic maintenance to students in the Natchitoches and Many regions. Instruction will utilize both simulators and actual equipment in the field.
  • The successful candidate must have experience in NCCER training, use the NCCER CORE Craft Skills and Heavy Equipment Operators curriculum, and become an NCCER Craft Level Instructor.
  • Advanced working knowledge of OSHA safety requirements regarding equipment and job sites.
  • Oversee the maintenance of training equipment and facilities, ensuring all machinery is in good working order, and the training environment is safe for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Assess students' knowledge and skills through written tests, practical exams, and performance assessments, providing constructive feedback and additional support where needed.
  • Promote and maintain a positive learning environment.
  • Able to use a wide variety of teaching methods to promote learning.
  • Attend state and regional training for implementation at the local level.
  • Follow changing state and federal regulations on HEO eligibility and requirements and ensure faculty and staff are informed accordingly.
  • Assist with collecting and maintaining data for developing and monitoring performance metrics and measurements.
  • Serve as a liaison between students, student support services, and industry partners.
  • Participate in professional development activities.
  • Serve on committees addressing enrollment, retention, and student success as it relates to the HEO program and related areas of study.
  • Provide students with information on campus and community resources. 
  • Other duties as assigned by the Dean.
