Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Three years of weights and standards law enforcement experience as a POST certified peace officer with the powers of arrest.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
Five years of any law enforcement experience as a POST certified peace officer with the powers of arrest.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess a valid driver’s license at time of appointment.
Active Police Officers Standard of Training (POST) certification.
An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified by the hiring agency until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

Job Concepts

FUNCTION OF WORK:
To provide enforcement of laws and regulations relative to weights and standards for commercial vehicles through direct supervision of enforcement personnel assigned to stationary scales.
LEVEL OF WORK:
Supervisor.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
General from a DOTD Enforcement Lieutenant. Other reporting relationships may be approved by SCS.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Direct over DOTD Enforcement Agents and other non-law enforcement staff as assigned. Other reporting relationships may be approved by SCS.
LOCATION OF WORK:
Department of Transportation and Development.
JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from DOTD Enforcement Agent 3 by the presence of direct supervisory responsibility over enforcement staff on an assigned shift.
Differs from DOTD Enforcement Lieutenant by the absence of direct supervisory responsibility over enforcement staff for multiple shifts and/or locations.

EXAMPLES BELOW ARE A BRIEF SAMPLE OF COMMON DUTIES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS JOB TITLE. NOT ALL POSSIBLE TASKS ARE INCLUDED.
Provides direct supervision of personnel relative to weights and standards enforcement on an assigned shift; provides training, guidance and evaluates performance.
Demonstrates correct procedures relative to checking equipment, weights, and permits pertaining to weights and standards enforcement at stationary scales.
Supervises investigations of complaints for alleged violations.
Serves as the lead investigator over lower-level agents for the assigned shift and coordinates undercover investigations when necessary.
Coordinates with other law enforcement agencies as necessary to support multi-agency investigations.
Serves as security supervisor for the assigned station. Trains personnel in proper procedures to identify and apprehend individuals suspected of criminal activity.
Supervises protocols for search and rescue response services. Leads search and rescue activities on the assigned shift.
Monitors/submits reports related to equipment upkeep and condition.
Reviews documents completed by subordinates related to enforcement activities to ensure correct procedures and established policies are followed.
May testify in court.
