Position Summary & Responsibilities :

Position Summary :

This Quarry Monitor (ET Senior) position works in the District One office located in Kansas City, KS. This position performs plant inspections and materials testing, performs documentation tasks, runs tests, and performs maintenance activities.

NOTE : The employee in this position must also maintain Certified Inspection certifications under the KDOT CIT Program as outlined in the Engineering Technician Progression Manual for the specific job path and any additional as outlined by the Senior Manager.

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following :

Obtains samples for quality tests, prepares sample identification forms, and submits them to the Research and Materials Lab.

This position also observes and documents that processing methods are followed as to the same method of processing when annual quality samples were taken, documents ledge depth, overburden, shale seams, etc.

and performs visual checks on and documents processed material going to the proper stockpile.

Acceptance at point of production : maintenance aggregate, stone for riprap, rock embankment, ditch lining, and other miscellaneous uses.

Obtains and prepares samples for analysis and related tests, prepares test reports, sample identification, and other related forms of distribution, reviews and records daily proceedings, and maintains a daily diary.

This position also assists with data entry in AWP via computer.

  • Runs all necessary testing at the KC Materials lab, assists with plant inspection and road sampling of quarry delivered products to a project, performs building maintenance and general housekeeping, and any special testing as requested by the District Materials Engineer or Bureau of Materials and Research Engineer.
  • Additional duties, including performing maintenance activities or assisting the maintenance department by operating snow and ice control equipment and performing other duties as required when there is an overriding need for assistance.

Qualifications :

  • Four years of experience in engineering technical support.
  • Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency. Transcripts are required for education to be considered.
  • Valid Driver’s License at time of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Excellent technical knowledge.

Post-Offer / Pre-employment Requirements :

  • A CDL must be obtained within 90 days of hire and maintained. KDOT provides CDL training at no cost to the employee.
  • This position is subject to pre-employment physical testing. The selected candidate will be required to pass the screening as a condition of employment.
  • This CDL position is subject to drug and alcohol testing under the authority of the US Department of Transportation. The selected candidate will be required to pass a DOT pre-employment / pre-duty drug test as a condition of employment in this position.

This position will also require you to participate in random testing, reasonable suspicion, post-accident, return-to-duty, and follow-up testing.)

  • Any Commercial Driver who has received a Confirmed Positive Result or the Equivalent and has not successfully completed all Rehabilitation Program requirements and follow-up testing requirements is not eligible for this position. (Per SOM 2.1.10).
  • Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate required in accordance with Executive Order 2004-03.
