Position Overview

The Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking to hire a Unit Director for the Ludeman Developmental Center located in Park Forest, Illinois.

An ideal candidate will support the values and vision of the agency and have a passion and ability to advocate and enable growth in our individuals.

The Unit Director will administer the operations of a residential program for individuals with developmental disabilities and monitor individual’s habilitation / treatment services being provided by community agencies, schools and workshops.

The Ludeman Developmental Center strives to provide equitable access to social / human services, supports, programs and resources to enhance the lives of all who we serve.

Job Responsibilities

• Serves as Unit Director for the Ludeman Developmental Center.
• Directs professional and non-professional unit staff in formulating and implementing programs and habilitation / treatment plans for individuals served.
• Serves as full-line supervisor.
• Coordinates unit programs with other units.
• Develops and implements unit training programs.
• Attends Executive Committee meetings to determine unit and Center policy and procedures.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

• Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years college.
• Requires four (4) years progressively responsible administrative experience in the fields of health or human services.

Preferred Qualifications

• Three (3) years of professional experience working with residential treatment programs, services, policies and procedures.
• Three (3) years of professional and / or managerial experience in a residential treatment facility.
• Three (3) years of professional experience developing strategic plans, long and short-term goals for a residential treatment program.
• Three (3) years of professional supervisory experience, assigning work, providing guidance to subordinates, recommending counseling and / or discipline following collective bargaining agreements, training staff and approving time off.
• Two (2) years of professional experience developing and monitoring plans of corrective action.
• Two (2) years of professional experience in the formulation and implementation of treatment programs and habilitation plans.
• One (1) year of basic proficiency in the use of computer systems.

Conditions of Employment

• Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
• Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
• Requires the ability to serve on-call as Administrator on Duty (AOD) on a rotation basis.
• Requires the ability to work after business hours, weekend and holidays.
• Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
• Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computer systems.
• Requires the ability to physically restrain individuals as necessary to prevent injury to individual or others.
