The Illinois Department of Corrections is seeking an enthusiastic, detail-minded, and service-oriented team player to fill a Corrections Law Library Assistant (CLLA) position.

Essential Function 1
Trains and supervises offender library law clerks in the use of legal library resources to provide assistance sought by offender library users.
1. Provides assistance to library users directly in making effective use of the law library to perform their own legal research.
2. Provides instructional sessions and / or workshops in the use of law library resources.
Essential Function 2
Receives / reviews offender requests for assistance in the use of the institution law library.
1. Assigns each request for assistance to the appropriate offender law clerk.
2. Monitors such assignments to verify that assistance was provided insures timely fair offender access to library and library services.
3. Available for staffing of the library to maintain service hours.
4. Maintains library order and security.
5. Provides law library services to offenders without access to the law library.
Essential Function 3
Explains court procedures and filing requirements without providing interpretations of substantive matters of law.
1. Verifies, locates, and obtains law library materials not held in the institution's collection.
2. Conduct legal research for offenders and to provide assistance in drafting, to the extent such activities do not involve the exercise of independent legal judgment.
3. Does not represent offenders in litigation.
Essential Function 4
Develops and maintains the institution law library.
1. Prepares statistical reports detailing law library use.
2. May provide Notary services.
Minimum Qualifications 1
Requires knowledge skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college with coursework in such areas as legal, pre-legal, English, statistics or directly related coursework.
