State of Georgia is Hiring a School Safety Specialist Near Atlanta, GA

Job Summary

The Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE)- Office of Whole Child Supports is recruiting for an experienced School Safety Specialist. Under limited supervision, this position will assist with the Georgia Department of Education efforts to provide technical assistance to schools and districts on topics related to safety and security. The School Safety Specialist will support local education authorities (LEA's) with developing and implementing safety and security policies, included but not limited to emergency preparedness best practices and risk management efforts. This remote position will reside in the Office of Whole Child Supports and report to the School Safety Program Manager. The job responsibilities include, but not limited to:

Description of Duties

  • Will work internally and externally with other state agencies to design and implement programs that will effectively address school safety and security needs
  • Assist in the implementation of school safety efforts through initiatives that include the Ready Georgia Seal of Preparedness, Student Health Survey, School Climate and School Improvement plans
  • Guide the creation and implementation of training programs for educators, school and district staff
  • Provide support to local districts in the development, planning and facilitation of school-based training exercises
  • Assist in all phases of state and federal school safety grant programs
  • Provide technical assistance on school-based systems to include security cameras, access control, communications, etc

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess one or more of the following:

  • Ability to interpret local, state and federal legislation, regulations, policies and rules governing environmental health and safety issues
  • Ability to develop clear and concise policies to assist districts and schools in meeting objectives related to safety and security
  • Ability to communicate effectively both written and orally to maintain effective working relationships with district and school staff, collaborative partners and the general public
  • Experience in writing lesson plans and developing training modules
  • Exercise sound judgement and makes appropriate decisions in a manner consistent with the essential duties and responsibilities
  • Ability to travel statewide on an as-needed basis
  • Demonstrated administrator level experience implementing a school-based safety plan, staff safety planning and establishing community partnerships to improve school safety and climate
  • Proven ability to collaborate with local, state and/or federal agencies that have a joint mission of providing a safe and secure environment for children

******This is a remote/telework position based in Downtown Atlanta. Some statewide travel may be required.

Master's degree in education or a related field from an accredited college or university AND Five years of related experience OR Bachelor's degree in education or a related field from an accredited college or university AND Seven years of related experience.
