State of Georgia is Hiring a School Operations Manager Near Atlanta, GA

Job Summary

The Georgia Department of Education (Ga DOE)- Division of State Schools is recruiting for an experienced School Operations Manager. Under the supervision of the State Schools Director, the School Operations Manager supports and supervises the following State Schools Central Office staff: two Operations Specialists and one Information Technology Manager. The School Operations Manager ensures that staff within the Operations Unit serve as liaisons between the three State Schools (Atlanta Area School for the Deaf, Georgia Academy for the Blind, and Georgia School for the Deaf) and the GaDOE's Office of Human Resources, School Nutrition Division, Policy, Flexibility, and External Affairs Division, Finance and Business Operations Division, Facilities Services Office, Office of Whole Child Supports, Student Safety and Wellbeing Office, and the School Climate Office. Travel will be required. Job responsibilities include, but not limited to:

Description of Duties

  • Ensure that staff in the Operations Unit collaborate with the school-level Superintendents and school-level staff to support the sustainability of high-performing instructional and residential programs that operate efficiently and effectively
  • Ensure that staff in the Operations Unit coordinate and facilitate effective communication and collaboration between the three State Schools and the GaDOE’s Office of Human Resources, School Nutrition Division, Policy, Flexibility, and External Affairs Division, Finance and Business Operations Division, Facilities Services Office, Office of Whole Child Supports, Student Safety and Wellbeing Office, and the School Climate Office
  • Ensure that staff in the Operations Unit support the three State Schools with completing tasks and initiatives by deadlines established by the GaDOE’s Office of Human Resources, School Nutrition Division, Policy, Flexibility, and External Affairs Division, Finance and Business Operations Division, Facilities Services Office, Office of Whole Child Supports, Student Safety and Wellbeing Office, and the School Climate Office
  • Ensure that staff in the Operations Unit support the three State Schools in ensuring compliance with state and federal laws, regulations, policies, and procedures related to services for special needs students
  • Ensure that staff in the Operations Unit collaborate with stakeholders within the three State Schools to develop and implement operational strategies to enhance efficiency and effectiveness related to completing projects and assignments involving working with the GaDOE’s Office of Human Resources, School Nutrition Division, Policy, Flexibility, and External Affairs Division, Finance and Business Operations Division, Facilities Services Office, Office of Whole Child Supports, Student Safety and Wellbeing Office, and the School Climate Office
  • Ensure that staff in the Operations Unit support stakeholders within the three State Schools to effectively manage budgetary and financial processes, including budget development/monitoring/reporting and procurement and contracting processes and procedures, related to completing projects and assignments involving working with the GaDOE’s Office of Human Resources, School Nutrition Division, Policy, Flexibility, and External Affairs Division, Finance and Business Operations Division, Facilities Services Office, Office of Whole Child Supports, Student Safety and Wellbeing Office, and the School Climate Office
  • Ensure that the Operations Unit collaboratively works with school-level staff to support students’ safety and wellbeing
  • Ensure that the Operations Unit collaboratively works with school-level staff to implement capital outlay projects
  • Ensure that the Operations Unit collaboratively works with school-level staff to implement preventative maintenance plans
  • Ensure that the Operations Unit provides professional learning to school-level staff regarding school safety
  • Ensure that the Operations Unit provides school-level staff support in managing a safe residential program that serves as a living and learning center for residential students
  • Ensure that staff in the Operations Unit collaborate effectively with staff in other Central Office Units (e.g., Support Services, Curriculum & Instruction, Business Office, and Outreach) to support the three State Schools
  • Serve as the GaDOE’s Title IX and Sexual Harassment Coordinator
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess one or more of the following:

  • Experience managing staff in the field of technology
  • Experience supervising a residential program at the school or central office level
  • Experience writing policies and procedures
  • Experience managing facilities
  • Possess a working knowledge of Title IX
  • Experience executing human resources functions (e.g., recruiting, supervising, and terminating employees, addressing employee conflict, implementing progressive discipline, etc.)
  • Experience supervising a school nutrition program
  • Experience managing budgets and allocating resources
  • Possess the ability to communicate effectively using American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Possess a strong command of written English

***This is a remote/telework position based in Downtown Atlanta. Some statewide travel may be required. If you applied for the Senior Operations Manager position (ADM0GPM), you do not need to submit an application or resume for this position.

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field AND Five years of experience managing professional level staff OR Nine years of experience AND Five years of management experience at the level equivalent to area of assignment OR Five years of experience at the lower level Sr Mgr, Business Ops (GSM012). Note: An equivalent combination of education and job specific experience that provided the knowledge, experience and competencies required to successfully perform the job at the level listed may be substituted on a year-over-year basis.
