The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) is the state agency that focuses solely on policies, programs, and services for people with mental health challenges, substance use disorders, intellectual and developmental disabilities, or any combination of these. As Georgia's public safety net, DBHDD operates six field offices and five hospitals throughout the state within three program areas: behavioral health, developmental disabilities and hospital services.

The main office for DBHDD is located in downtown Atlanta.

Description

Georgia Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Disabilities has Psychiatrist positions at our facilities in Columbus, Decatur, Milledgeville and Savannah.

The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Psychiatrist at Georgia Regional Hospital - Atlanta (GRHA) in Decatur, Georgia.

Georgia Regional Hospital, Atlanta Georgia -Georgia Regional Hospital at Atlanta (GRH-A) is a publicly owned facility of the State of Georgia and operated by the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD). GRH-A is located on 174 acres in the city of Decatur, directly adjacent to the city of Atlanta. GRH-A operates 306 licensed, accredited inpatient beds for three major program areas: 1) Adult Mental Health, 2) Adult Forensic Services, and 3) Developmental

Disabilities/Skilled Nursing. The hospital serves a large number of underserved groups including adults who are economically disadvantaged, homeless, from diverse racial or ethnic groups, and/or who have severe mental illness. No one is refused admission to the hospital because of inability to pay for services.

Job Description, Responsibilities, Standards, and Qualifications

The Psychiatrist, in conjunction with a comprehensive treatment team, addresses the clinical needs of consumers in the hospital. Openings will vary depending on current staffing in the following areas: Admissions, Adult Mental Health Inpatient, and Forensic Inpatient Services.

Admissions:

Job Responsibilities:

* Review of referrals from outside facilities for medical/psychiatric appropriateness,

* Evaluation of individuals accepted from the community to determine the need for inpatient treatment, and reevaluation of individuals receiving treatment in our temporary observation unit.

* Provides comprehensive medical services by examining patients, diagnosing conditions and providing treatments.

* Directs nurses, aides and others in the care and treatment of patients.

* May direct clinical operations and participate in research efforts.

* Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Medical degree recognized by the Georgia Composite Medical Board (GCMB) AND licensure or license-eligible to practice medicine at a state institution or in the state of Georgia as provided by state law AND Two years of experience at the lower-level Physician 2 (HCP161) or position equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to the candidates who possess the following:

* Psychiatrists are graduates of a medical school recognized by the composite state board of medical examiners

* Licensure to practice medicine in the state of Georgia

* Candidates should be board eligible, or board certified in psychiatry
