State of Georgia is Hiring an Office of Transportation Data- Transportation Specialist 1- TRP050- PG K- GIS Analyst 1 Near Atlanta, GA

Job Summary:

Under supervision, provides entry level professional support in one or more of the following areas: OMAT, maintenance, construction, intermodal, planning, utilities, surveying, environmental and traffic.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Under general supervision at a full working level, utilizes Geographic Information System (GIS) technologies such as ArcGIS 10.x Software Suite to create, edit, analyze, and manage spatial data (raster or vector).
  • Work with CAD data (ie AutoCAD, MicroStation) to integrate into GIS workflows and datasets.
  • Creates, maintains, and updates City, County, and special use maps.
  • Assists with training of office staff in Geographic Information Systems and may manage small scale projects to successful completion.
  • Making presentations, map composition and printing on large- format printers using custom and automated methods.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The selected candidate must meet the advertised minimum qualifications to include State Entry Qualifications as well as Agency Specific Qualifications

Entry Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • OR Associate’s degree in a related field
  • OR One year of experience at position equivalent.

Agency Specific Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of relational database principles and versioned SDE database editing
  • Intermediate level proficiency with ArcGIS Desktop.
  • Experience in technical geography and utilizing GIS software to perform spatial analyses or produce cartographic maps.
  • Knowledge of Linear Referencing principles (Dynamic Segmentation, Route Features, Event Tables)
  • Ability utilizing GIS programming scripts/languages
  • Ability to read and interpret technical journals/manuals, aerial photographs, program documentation, maps, graphs, etc.
  • Ability to solve practical problems by choosing the appropriate mathematical/statistical technique.
  • Ability to write and prepare technical reports, summary of analyses & business correspondence.
  • Ability to identify and analyze problems and develop possible solutions.
  • Ability to adapt to and effectively utilize new technologies/procedures.
  • Ability to manage own time effectively.
  • Ability to work effectively with co-workers to achieve goals.
  • Display a high level of commitment toward work and a high standard of ethical conduct.
  • Committed to providing quality customer service

Agency Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to develop new procedures/applications where established methods are inapplicable.
  • Ability to effectively express ideas and facts to internal and external personnel orally and in writing to interpret/explain GIS applications.
  • Ability to effectively organize work, setting priorities and determining strategies to achieve them.

Actions that may disqualify an applicant include letters of reprimand (active for 12 months after issuance date); suspension without pay or disciplinary demotion (active for 12 months from the effective date); Performance Improvement Plans (PIP) and Leave Restriction Plans (active until 12 months after the date of conclusion). In addition, an employee must have an overall ePerformance rating score of three (3) or higher on their most current evaluation. Please note that Memorandums of Concern are not considered disqualifying factors. Human Resources may remove any employee from consideration for selection who is pending a disciplinary action; however, if the action is resolved in the employee’s favor, he or she will be allowed to compete.
