MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
A high school diploma or its equivalent and four (4) years of experience in laboratory work.
College or vocational/technical training can substitute at the rate of 30 semester, 45 quarter or 720 classroom hours for the required experience provided such education includes three courses in the physical and/or natural sciences.
Certain positions within this class require individuals to meet specific federal or state regulations as identified by the employing agency.
Requires possession of a valid Class E driver license.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Incumbent must pass a pulmonary function test with medical evaluation, must undergo and pass regular respirator fit testing, and must wear a respirator when required.
Will be subject to the requirements of the proper use of appropriate respirator.
Occasional travel required.
Some alternate work hours required to accomplish duties and responsibilities.
JOB DUTIES:
Assists the Pathologist (Veterinarian) on duty and Bio-Scientist with daily procedures of the clinical pathology/parasitology section. Responsible for assisting and performing a variety of fecal, hematological and serological procedures within the turnaround time as advertised. Prepares laboratory worksheets indicating procedures accomplished and results of those tests. Performs a variety of fecal analysis including, but not limited to, fecal floatation’s, sedimentations, parasite egg counts and parasite identification. Responsible for conducting hemograms, biochemical profiles analysis, and endocrinology assays using automated equipment and performs manual white blood cell differentials as requested.
As a laboratory technician of the clinical pathology/parasitology section the incumbent ensures daily accuracy of the equipment, to include the upkeep, maintenance, calibration and priming of equipment, and maintaining accurate records. Ensures the section has standards for all species tested and participates in third party quality assurance proficiency tests on a quarterly basis to ensure reliability of results. Responsible for preparing laboratory worksheets indicating procedures accomplished and results of those tests. Ensures the cleanliness of the work areas and biohazardous waste disposal of the assigned duty section is maintained, and performs daily pick-up of samples delivered in shipping and receiving. Responsible for following all approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) when conducting diagnostic assays. Required to comply with Quality Assurance (SOP’s). Assists section with SOP updates. Adheres to laboratory safety guidelines.
Cross trains in other testing areas, including the Necropsy Section to assist necropsy veterinarians in the absence of the primary necropsy diener, depending on the case load. Incumbent will perform diener duties as needed to include: receiving live and dead animals; transferring large animals to the necropsy table and/or cooler by the means of a hoist; preparing necropsy utensils; and ensuring the disinfection and decontamination of the necropsy room to include laundry and cleaning the necropsy room floor.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
