ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

The incumbent must obtain a Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) within six (6) months of appointment. The Florida Forest Service will cover the majority of the cost associated with attaining the required CDL training and the initial CDL test when administered at an agency authorized CDL training center.

Frequent travel required.

Position may respond to emergencies, including natural disasters or other type incidents requiring travel, as needed.

Reasonable suspicion, post-accident, and random drug and alcohol testing provisions in accordance with Title 49 CFR Part 382, Federal Highway Administration Rules, effective January 1, 1995.

NOTE

This position works four 10-hour days, Monday through Thursday. Daily from 6 : 00am to 5 : 00pm.

JOB DUTIES

This work is in wildland fuels management in the wildland urban interface to reduce the wildfire threat. Conducting fuels treatment including prescribed fire, heavy mowing, and firebreak establishment and providing risk assessment.

Work is performed region wide and requires frequent extended travel.

This individual operates and maintains various kinds of equipment in wildfire mitigation including operating truck-tractor / semi-trailer or truck and trailer combinations, Type 6 engines, bulldozers, skid steers, track carrier mulching mowers, transports (tractor trailer) and other special equipment.

Work includes operation of brush cutters, chainsaws, and other hand tools in preparing sites for prescribed burning. Participates in prescribed burning in the urban interface.

Individual will complete required accomplishment reporting and mapping paperwork. Intensifies public awareness of the value and importance of prescribed fires, fuel management, FIREWISE Program and fire prevention through public education programs in a variety of public forums.

Responds to All-Risk Emergency Incidents, as required.

Performs maintenance and construction activities on fixed facilities and equipment.

Performs related work as required.
