OPEN COMPETITIVE

This is a highly responsible professional position that requires training, expertise, and experience in survey coordination, epidemiology and Public Health. The incumbent works both independently and collaboratively with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), county health departments, and other DOH program entities. The incumbent is responsible for coordinating Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) survey, including securing funding, managing contract; monitoring data collection, and conducting data analysis, and dissemination of BRFSS data.

Coordinates the BRFSS survey, including designing the survey questionnaire, communicating with CDC, offices within DOH and other state organizations, developing and managing the contract for the survey, monitoring the quality of survey process and data, disseminating the data obtained from CDC.

Manages the budget of BRFSS survey.

Responds to requests for the BRFSS data by analyzing and compiling the data.

Develops grant renewal applications and annual progress reports to CDC.

Coordinates and participates in epidemiologic studies on chronic diseases and behavioral risk factors using the BRFSS data and other data. Disseminates the results of study through publishing reports and making presentations at DOH Grand Rounds and conferences at local, state and national levels.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge, skills and abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the position: Knowledge of basic management principles and practices. Knowledge of data base structure and design. Ability to perform relevant statistical analysis. Ability to organize data into logical formats for presentations, reports, publications and other written materials. Ability to conduct fact finding research. Ability to use problem solving techniques. Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work activities. Ability to communicate orally and in writing. Ability to complete assignments on time. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Qualifications:

Minimum – A Bachelor’s degree in Public Health or similar field

Preferred – A Master’s degree in Public Health or similar field; experience and familiarity with disease prevention and health promotion programs; effectively communicate in both written and verbal forms; work independently, prioritize and organize work assignments and work under pressure.
