POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is in the Business Systems Engineering Bureau. This is a full-time position responsible for performing administrative and technical work in developing and maintaining comprehensive management information systems. This position directs the work of project teams in the analysis, design, development, implementation, and maintenance of information systems.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specific duties may include:

  • Producing application software code, assisting in the analysis of code, and reviewing analysis and design documentation with project staff;
  • Analyzing reported defects in software, identifying corrections, and implementing corrective actions within a timeframe and in a manner acceptable to the customer;
  • Working with vendor staff when new hardware or software is acquired, to configure it, as required, into the existing system configuration;
  • Applying appropriate structured techniques in the analysis, design, and construction of systems/programs. Applying testing and debug principles in the testing phase of the system development/maintenance. Follow standards and procedures established within ITS;
  • Conducting studies and consulting with customers and local law enforcement agencies to determine requirements for implementation of related information subsystems;
  • Facilitating requirement gathering meetings during the initiation and planning phases of ITS projects. Ensuring all projects are planned with documented Scopes, requirements, and other project initiation and planning documents as needed in the ITS BSE Bureau;
  • Reviewing and providing input for procurement documents as necessary including statements of work, contracts, contract changes and amendments, and other documents necessary for the initiation of IT projects;
  • Preparing program user specifications and assisting programming staff with understanding data definitions, edits, program modifications, and output reports required by supplying written documentation and verbal instructions as required; and
  • Performing bill analysis as needed to evaluate the impact of proposed legislation on the section and the bureau.

To be considered a potential candidate, you must meet the minimum qualifications(s) listed below. Degrees must be from an accredited college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and five years of experience in data processing*; or
  2. A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in one of the computer sciences or in management information systems and four years of experience in data processing*; or
  3. A master's degree from an accredited college or university in one of the computer sciences or management information systems and three years of experience in data processing*; or
  4. A doctorate from an accredited college or university in one of the computer sciences or management information systems; or
  5. A high school diploma or its equivalent and nine years of experience in data processing*.
  6. Any combination of education or experience, as described above, for a total of nine years.
  7. Completion of a 720-classroom hour program of study from a vocational/technical school or accredited community college in an area of data processing* and six years of experience in data processing*.
  8. Experience in data processing* can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college.

Note: 30 semester hours, or equivalent, of course work from an accredited college or university is equivalent to one year of experience.

*Data entry excluded in data processing experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of computer programming and systems analysis;
  • Knowledge of Project Management principles and practices;
  • Knowledge of operating systems and/or telecommunications concepts;
  • Knowledge of mathematics;
  • Knowledge of computer operations procedures and systems;
  • Knowledge of computer programming languages;
  • Ability to design programs and systems logic;
  • Ability to address important questions at the beginning of the project;
  • Ability to communicate roles, expectations, and objectives to the team; and
  • Ability to monitor progress and identify roadblocks;

BASE SALARY:

  • $75,000.00

FDLE requires an extensive background process of all recommended applicants.
