Introduction

Delaware's Attorney General, the State's chief law enforcement officer, has a broad responsibility to combat crime, uphold civil rights, safeguard families, fight fraud, and protect consumers in the First State. In meeting this mission, Attorney General Kathy Jennings is supported by teams of talented lawyers and staff in the Criminal, Civil, Family, Fraud and Consumer Protection, and Civil Rights and Public Trust Divisions. Each of the more than 500 staff who work in the Office of the Attorney General are dedicated to serving all Delawareans with integrity and passion. Deputy Attorneys General, with critical support from criminal special investigators, victim service specialists, paraprofessionals, and administrative staff, prosecute criminal cases, enforce consumer laws, provide counsel to state agencies, ensure the public's access to open government, protect the abused, and much more.

Summary Statement

The Delaware Department of Justice seeks a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Coordinator in the Administrative Law & Education Unit in the Civil Division. This position will report to the FOIA Deputy Attorney General.�

Essential Functions

Responsibilities include responding to all FOIA requests directed to the DOJ and performing any related tasks, including conducting research, formulating search strategies, collecting records, interpreting, and applying the principles of FOIA, reviewing and redacting documents for production, and preparing and issuing responses within requisite timeframes.�The FOIA Coordinator monitors the FOIA Office’s mail, phone, and email account and may be asked to perform other office duties.The FOIA Coordinator also will be required to provide administrative support for the processing of FOIA petitions, including handling all petition correspondence, maintain the FOIA log and the list of FOIA coordinators, answer questions from the public and other agencies, issue and post opinions on the Attorney General Opinion website, maintain information regarding the DOJ’s functions and recordkeeping, assist the FOIA Committee with various matters, coordinate the logistics for the annual FOIA training, maintain the filing system for all FOIA records, and perform other duties as assigned, including assisting other Deputy Attorneys General when needed.���

Candidates must be well-organized, able to work independently and exercise problem-solving skills, and possess excellent time management skills to meet internal and external deadlines.�
