Division of Water Resources (DWR), aka State Engineer’s Office
Our mission is to administer the waters of the State to maximize lawful beneficial use, ensure that dams and water wells are properly constructed and safe, and provide information about water resources to the public.

POSITION SUMMARY:
A field/office technician position that conducts site inspections and manages the data collected by other field technicians related to the Pond Management program for processing and administrative purposes. Daily interaction with landowners and staff requires effective communication skills. Specific duties include but are not limited to:
  • Review information provided by field staff to determine if the structure is subject to administration
  • Track enforcement actions from start to finish
  • Assess documentation to determine acceptable compliance.
  • Conducts field inspections as needed to coordinate with other field pond staff.
  • Assists the Water Resources Engineer by compiling information, including, but not limited to, location, surface area, site-specific history, and enforcement actions, and updating records accordingly.
  • Compare Ponds Project data to current DWR datasets to check for gaps, overlaps, and duplicates to consolidate where necessary.
Improve internal processes for pond data collection, usability, and statistical analysis. Work with app development teams and GIS teams to implement staff improvements. Provide vetted updates on pond statuses, compliance, and statistics. BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be willing and able to work _40__ hours per week.
  • Anticipated schedule is __Monday_ through _Friday__ from _8__ a.m. to _5_ p.m.
  • Must be available to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Must be available to work varied shifts (please provide additional details if known).
  • Must have a current & valid driver's license or reliable transportation. 
  • Must be willing and able to travel daily throughout the water district.
  • Must have the ability to report to the work location that can include off-road conditions and rugged terrain. 
  • Must have the ability to independently access remote locations to complete work assignments within the district.
  •  
  • Preference may be given to applicants with or working towards a Natural Resources degree or similar education.
  • Previous working with the public preferred.
  • Possesses strong interpersonal communication skills to deliver excellent customer service.
  • 2 years of professional experience assisting engineers, scientists, or technicians with work related to engineering or physical science, which involves the use, measurement, and control or distribution of water. AND High school diploma or GED
  • Substitutions:
    Additional appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis (Experience as a ditch rider, rancher or farmer that included regulating and measuring water flow through headgates, canals or streams, or experience managing irrigation and irrigation systems, scientific field investigations, municipal water operations, Colorado water administration, or other experience related water or natural resources is considered related experience.)"
  • Basic computer skills required (MS Office Suite, Google App Suite, Google Maps Navigation or similar) 
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and work well within a team.
  • Must be willing and able to work outside which may involve inclement weather.
