Description of Job

The Work Unit: The Immunization Branch Public Health Detailing program works with immunization providers to assess and interpret up-to-date (UTD) rates for their patient population. Visits include clinical guidance and an opportunity to identify quality improvement strategies to address missed opportunities and increase vaccination rates. This position provides clinical consultation, technical assistance, and training and serves as an expert immunization resource to providers. This includes consultation on pediatric immunizations, coordination of immunization assessment activities, and provider education.
This Position: This position conducts public health detailing site visits, working to provide data assessment to providers and promote quality improvement activities within provider offices. The purpose is to assure high-quality immunization services, correct vaccine administration, and activities to increase immunization coverage in children, specifically to support the division's goal of raising the MMR coverage rates in Colorado. The position is part of the clinical group within CIB that covers the vaccine administration customer service line. This includes clinical consultation on pediatric, adolescent, and adult immunizations and provider education.
What you will be doing:

  • Reviews evidence and best practice guidelines to develop resources to use during detailing sessions at provider offices.
  • Identifies providers in areas with low vaccination rates or high vaccine exemption rates to prioritize for participation in public health detailing detailing.
  • Conducts visits at provider offices to assess immunization practices and clinic workflow.
  • Creates and shares provider-level immunization rates and identifies areas of potential improvement.
  • Recommends strategies to align immunization practices at provider offices with accepted best practices.
  • Provides technical guidance to assist providers in implementing strategies to improve immunization service delivery.
  • Completes public health detailing activities, including data entry into the data tracking system.
  • Provides support for partnered vaccine reminder/recall process
  • Develops and implements ongoing educational opportunities for public and private health care providers.
  • Education provided by this position has a specific focus on pediatric immunizations.
  • Provides information regarding planning and implementation of immunization strategies that increase immunization rates in clinical provider offices.
  • Education for immunization providers may include vaccine administration, schedules and intervals, contraindications, missed opportunities, proper storage and handling of vaccines, documentation requirements, adverse reactions and actions to be taken, and standards of practice for immunization service delivery.
  • Stay current on the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommendations and Colorado Board of Health Rules as they relate to immunization practice.
  • Responsible for evaluating immunization service delivery.
  • Participates in a customer service system to ensure phone and email coverage for clinical questions daily.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

OPTION 1
Nine (9) years of professional nursing experience in health care directed toward the goals of prevention, assessment, risk reduction, vaccination and health status improvement for individuals, families and communities AND Current, valid licensure as a Registered Nurse from the Colorado Board of Nursing or any state participating in the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
OR
OPTION 2
Three (3) years of professional nursing experience in health care directed toward the goals of prevention, assessment, risk reduction, vaccination and health status improvement for individuals, families and communities AND Master's degree from an accredited institution in Nursing, Biology, Epidemiology, Public Health, or other closely related field AND Current, valid licensure as a Registered Nurse from the Colorado Board of Nursing or any state participating in the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Must be willing to:
  • A pre-employment background check.
  • Travel occasionally provide on-site training, and attend meetings and may require overnight.
  • Be available in the event of an emergency, (e.g., bio-terrorist attack, chemical attack, disease outbreak or all hazards) and be required to report to work immediately at the regular or alternate location. During this time, travel restrictions may be in place.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Relevant years of state of Colorado service
  • Experience with immunization service delivery and immunization data
  • Experience with CDC child and adult vaccine schedules
  • Experience with clinical workflow
  • Experience gathering relevant information; identifying and analyzing problems; and using critical thinking and problem solving skills to arrive at conclusions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
