State of Alaska is Hiring a STNP Emergency Management Specialist 1 Near Anchorage, AK

This short term non permanent position is open to Alaska Residents only.

What you will be doing:
Do you enjoy traveling? In this position you will be traveling within Alaska helping the preparedness section as one of the dedicated staff assisting with summer events designed to serve the public and communities around the state to become prepared against disasters and emergencies.

*NOTE * SPECIAL NOTICE - JBER (BASE) ACCESS * NOTE*
The successful applicants must pass a federal background check to qualify for military base access, which is required with this position’s work location on base. The background check will include fingerprinting. All job offers are conditional pending successful completion of the federal background check and issuance of a Defense Biometrics Identification System (DBIDS) card allowing base access.
Also, you must be able to maintain the clearance throughout your employment. Using a private vehicle will require a valid Alaska Driver's License, proof of vehicle insurance, and a valid State of Alaska vehicle registration.
State employees are guests on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson; clearance and access are not within the State’s control.

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of paraprofessional experience in emergency management, emergency response, natural resource management, planning, grant administration, or finance. The required experience includes work such as Emergency Management Assistant, Natural Resource Technician 2, or Accounting Technician 1 with the State of Alaska, or the equivalent elsewhere.
OR
An associate degree from an accredited college in emergency management or homeland security.
OR
A bachelor's degree, in any field, from an accredited college.
Special Note:
A valid Alaska driver's license is required.
Some positions require the incumbent to obtain a federal security clearance.
Work may require periodic, 24-hour on-call duty and travel to remote locations in small aircraft and boats, and may involve exposure to inherently hazardous or potentially dangerous environmental conditions.

Additional Required Information

No later than the time of interview, please provide:

  • Last two performance evaluations or two professional letters of reference if evaluations are not available or any combination of two (2).
  • Three (3) Professional References. Must include name, title and daytime phone number. One (1) of these should be from your current or former supervisor.
  • If you require education to meet the MQ’s of this job class please attach your transcripts and degree certification.
  • Copy of your valid Alaska Driver License.
You must be willing and able to travel within the state, including very remote areas or out of state on an as needed basis. Transportation can be via commercial airlines (big and small), very small planes, helicopters, boats, snow machines, and all-terrain vehicles to remote areas of the state in support of the division’s mission.
You must be willing and able to respond to catastrophic disaster emergencies where response is likely to impose more stringent physical and mental requirements such as rapid deployment away from home and family, changed work times (day vs. night) and longer shifts (12 hours or more), working in austere facilities and frequently at tasks very different from day-to-day assignments, and living in sometimes sparse accommodations, similar to outdoor camping and can include: tents, sleeping bags, cabins, gymnasium floors, etc.

Copies of transcripts are required to verify educational credentials if used to meet the minimum qualifications for a position. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
