What you will be doing:
We are looking for a Research Analyst to join the Healthy and Equitable Communities team, focusing on health equity-related projects through the Division of Public Health. Are you the data expert we are looking for? We rely on data in planning and implementing our programs, and it is the role of the Research Analyst to ensure that we are using the most up-to-date data possible and that the data we use to make programmatic decisions is accurate, vetted, relevant, and applicable to Alaskans.

The working environment you can expect:
This position is part of a statewide Healthy and Equitable Communities Unit, which includes both Anchorage-based positions and positions located at Public Health Centers statewide. This position will be located in Anchorage, at the Frontier Building. The Division of Public Health supports flexible telework schedules, and this position will primarily be telework, with occasional in-office days.
While the work of this position and Unit builds upon existing work and plans including Healthy Alaskans 2030, the COVID-19 response has highlighted systems and practices that make some communities and groups more vulnerable to poor health and has provided new federal funding to address them. The Healthy and Equitable Communities Unit operates in a fast-paced work environment and is focused on supporting community partnerships and project implementations.

  • Public Health: Applies knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, methods, and tools associated with protecting and improving the health of people and their communities, including, promoting healthy lifestyles, researching disease and/or injury prevention, and/or detecting, preventing, and responding to infectious diseases.
  • Research: Knowledge of the scientific principles, methods, and processes used to conduct systematic and objective inquiry, including study design, data collection, analysis, interpretation, and reporting of results.

Competency Description

Special Note:
“Competencies” means a combination of interrelated knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors that enable a person to act effectively in a job or situation.

SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONS

The State of Alaska uses four proficiency levels to measure and describe an applicant’s level of competence in applying certain behaviors, knowledge, skills, and abilities to accomplish a specific task.
