What You Will Be Doing

  • Under general supervision of the Maintenance Foreman, this position performs routine maintenance generalist work involving the repair and maintenance of interior and exterior buildings, components and system devices, structures, grounds, and preventative maintenance at the Anchorage Correctional Complex.
  • This position is responsible for performing essential tasks to ensure the proper upkeep and maintenance of grounds, plants, exterior structures, buildings, and related fixtures and utilities.

They are expected to learn a basic understanding of blueprints and schematic drawings to facilitate their work.

  • The incumbent will assist other workers in assembling and carrying materials and equipment, thereby contributing to the smooth flow of operations.
  • Additionally, the role involves undertaking basic work projects, including digging trenches, demolishing walls, and efficiently removing debris to maintain a safe and well-organized environment.

Other duties could include, but are not limited to, painting and caulking, changing of light bulbs and fixtures, minor plumbing such as small leaks and clogs, minor carpentry such as molding repair or replacement, groundskeeping such as mowing, trimming and weeding, and other tasks of a similar skill level.

  • During winter conditions, the incumbent will be required to plow snow and spread sand to ensure safe pathways and access areas.
  • Responsible for performing a variety of essential tasks aimed at ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of maintenance machines and equipment.
  • Responsibilities include installing and assembling new maintenance machines and equipment to guarantee their proper functioning.
  • Additionally, will maintain a proactive preventative maintenance schedule, conducting regular inspections, servicing, and testing of equipment to identify and address potential issues before they escalate.
  • To accomplish assigned maintenance tasks and work orders, the Maintenance Generalist will utilize power tools and various hand tools and progress to a level of proficiency.
  • Will also play a vital role in maintaining an organized inventory of cleaning and repair supplies, ensuring that necessary resources are readily available for prompt and efficient maintenance operations.
  • Will diagnose and repair minor machine malfunctions in a timely and effective manner to minimize downtime and optimize equipment functionality.
  • Assists and / or performs basic fleet maintenance on vehicles such as oil changes, fuel, oil, and air filters, charge and service batteries, change / mount tires, etc.

CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECKS / APSIN / ACOMS

A security clearance issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) is necessary to use APSIN / ACOMS. DPS will deny security clearance for any applicant who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor in this state or another jurisdiction, or who may be a fugitive from justice.

Additionally, security clearance will be withdrawn if DPS discovers that material information was falsified or omitted at the time of the initial application for security clearance.
