The Johnson Youth Center is recruiting to fill a Juvenile Justice Counselor 3 position. If you are interested in being part of a dynamic and innovative team, please continue reading!
What you will be doing:
Under direction, this position leads Juvenile Justice Counselor 1/2s in duties and responsibilities to ensure that a secure, safe, and therapeutic environment is provided. This position serves as shift supervisor and ensures all policies are adhered to while maintaining the Trauma Informed approach through the Restorative Justice mission of the Division of Juvenile Justice.
 
Successful candidates will influence, inspire, and transform the lives of juvenile offenders and their families through therapeutic programs that incorporate the Restorative Justice approach to community protection, offender accountability, and competency development. You will build strong relationships with the youth we serve and use these relationships to deliver skills through groups such as anger management, drug and alcohol education, and life skills. As part of a treatment team, you will work with residents on their individual treatment needs while maintaining the focus of the Division’s mission. You will ensure the security of residents, visitors, staff, and facility buildings during assigned shifts.

The work environment you can expect:
This position is at the Johnson Youth Center on Hospital Drive in Juneau. As a member of our team, you will cover different shifts during a 40-hour workweek. The shift schedule is adjusted annually and may include evening and grave shifts in addition to working weekends and holidays.

PJ03A3 – Juvenile Justice Counselor 3
One year of experience performing the full range of treatment and security functions in a juvenile justice facility. The required experience is met by service as a Juvenile Justice Counselor 2 with the State of Alaska, or the equivalent elsewhere.
 
OR
 
One year of experience administering, advising on, performing, or supervising adult or juvenile corrections, law enforcement, parole, probation, residential treatment casework, or social casework.
 
OR
 
One year of experience performing the full range of duties associated with the custody, security, and reformation of prisoners in an adult correctional institution. The required experience is met by service as a Correctional Officer 2 with the State of Alaska, or the equivalent elsewhere.
Special Note:
Prior to initial appointment, successful candidates for the Juvenile Justice Counselor are subject to a background investigation, criminal record check, and medical examination to determine the essential duties of the position can be safely performed.A valid driver’s license is required at the time of appointment. At time of interview applicant must submit

  • Two (2) performance evaluations from previous employers, if available. 
  • Copy of transcripts if using education to meet the MQ's (unofficial are acceptable, please ensure that the institution name/URL are listed on the transcripts)
Position Requirements
  • Requires frequent travel within the State (normally one trip of up to 3 days length occurring monthly).
  • Requires use of the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN), which includes passing a background investigation including fingerprinting will be conducted.
