WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING: This position works in the Criminal Records Unit and is funded through the National Instant Criminal Background Check (NICS) Act Record Improvement Program (NARIP). The position’s primarily responsibility on the project is to process missing criminal charge dispositions using a variety of criminal justice information databases and to enter the located records into the state’s criminal history database, the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN). The position will work with other members of the Criminal Records Unit and Bureau staff as well as partner agencies to evaluate criminal disposition information and to work collaboratively to resolve conflicting or incomplete information to ensure criminal history records are entered completely and accurately in APSIN and national criminal history repositories.
OUR ORGANIZATION, MISSION, AND CULTURE: The work completed by this position supports the mission of the division to provide technical and specialized services to the Department of Public Safety. Criminal justice agencies, employment and licensing agencies, and the public rely on the information processed. The Criminal Justice Technician is critical to processing and maintaining the information in the state’s criminal history repository timely, accurately, and completely. The efforts of the team help ensure the state and national criminal record databases are as complete as possible, and records are readily available as required by law.

THE WORKING CONDITIONS YOU CAN EXPECT: This position is located in East Anchorage in the Department of Public Safety’s Headquarters building at 5700 East Tudor Road. Office space is on the lower level of the building and consists of individual workstations in an open area to encourage collaborative efforts. The backdrop to the building is the Chugach Mountains and ample parking is available; public transportation drop points are located directly in front of the building and paved trails are located right next to the building.

FLEXIBLY STAFFED
This position is flexibly staffed. The level of the job offer will be based on the selected candidate’s credibly possessed and proven competencies. If hired at the lower level, you will be promoted to the higher level after completing the training plan and demonstrating competency in the work.
BACKGROUND CHECK This position requires the incumbent to submit to a fingerprint based criminal history background check. Due to the sensitive nature of this position, and required access to APSIN, an applicant with criminal convictions will not move forward in the selection process.
